Now that everybody knows Vegas 13 has ended its life, and I am very sad cause this, I am very worried about if Sound Forge will be discontinued now. Message last edited on9/16/2015 10:11:27 AM byGrundman. |

"I am very worried about if Sound Forge will be discontinued now" - I don't think that will happen. And what could be done to make it better... except for 64 bit and rolling back the record and plug-in chainer UI to SF10. FWIW, Beta testing of next version of VP is currently going on. |

I would definitely like to see it a native 64-bit program. I may be wrong, but I would assume that anyone on Windows 7 and later are on 64-bit. The program could then use all of the features of 64-bit. The users who have not installed 64-bit can remain on Sound Forge Pro 11. I presume most of those users are still on Windows XP. I know that is still a very popular OS. I see it on many corporate networks. However, I do NOT want it converted to a Windows 8 and later program (interface). I refer to that as a "box" operating system running a "box" application. Please keep the interface similar to what it is today. If any of this post is incorrect, please correct me. |

Essentially correct, just a couple little nits ... A lot of early Windows 7 installs were 32 bit, and there is also a 64 bit version of XP. It's not the OS that determines 32 vs. 64 bits, it's the CPU. Once you have a CPU the OS must be chosen to match it. Sound Forge Pro 11 requires Vista/Win7 or higher. Since i'm still on XP i'm stuck with version 10. I whole-heartedly agree with you about retaining the interface though. It may not be artistic and modern, but it is exquisitely functional! Every application i've seen with a 'fancier' interface is much harder to learn and use, and that includes Windows 8 itself. I did my first Win8 installation roll out yesterday. I was tearing my hair out trying to find out how to set the computers up for my users. It's not just that things were radically different than Win7, it's that almost every administration task required 2 to 3 times as many steps, and those steps were usually arcane and unobvious. <sarcasm>The screen sure looks pretty though.</sarcasm> |

Chienworks, Thank you for your reply. I know Windows XP has a 64-bit version, but I understand only a small percentage of XP are installed with it. Of course I could be wrong. I think XP was one of the best operating systems Microsoft released until Windows 7. I have had Windows 7 Pro 64-bit since March 2013 and have not had any problems (cross my fingers). I have never reinstalled it. (cross my fingers) My wife bought an HP desktop in August 2007 with Windows Vista Home Premium. I think either Windows Vista or Windows Millennium Edition (ME) were the worst. Windows Vista probably wins that honor. I think Microsoft released Windows Vista as a Beta for Windows 7. They let the public pay for it and test it. Then the public gave their opinions and Microsoft incorporated many of the suggestions and released Windows 7. I have not worked with Windows 8 or 8.1 so I can't really say much about it except I don't like the idea of a "Box" operating. I know that some day I will have to upgrade to Windows 10. My primary concern is Sony software having problems. I know, most people say it works for them, but I see in all of the forums many have problems. That is not good for anyone using it, especially in a professional environment. I have personally talked with a few that used the free upgrade to Windows 10. They love it. I don't not know what software they use, but I am 90% sure it is not Sony applications. Oh well, I have said a lot here. I will end this post now. |

The original post said that Vegas 13 has ended it's life. Where did someone see this? I know they are obviously trying to sell all of the 13 stock because of the many emails I have been receiving. Does that mean: 1) Vegas Pro 13 will have no more updates, or 2) Vegas Pro regardless of the version will not have any more updates? Is it the end of that program completely? The latter sounds difficult to believe because too many professionals (people and companies) depend on it. An alternative is Sony could essentially be changing the name by developing a completely new application. Would someone please enlighten me? |

My guess is they will probably unify the next windows version with the more recently developed Mac version.. that would be the logical choice for them, but I think most people still prefer the current interface or even version 11's. |

"Sound Forge Pro 11 requires Vista/Win7 or higher. Since I'm still on XP i'm stuck with version 10" - Same here, but I do have SF-11 it installed on my Vista PC, which is primarily used for web and administrative duties, and works OK for that.. but sucks with any version of SF. That said, the latest build of Sound Forge Pro 11 requires Win7 or higher and won't install on Vista.. Fine with me since I don't like 11.0 much anyway with forked up 'One Touch Recording' and "Plug-in Chainer". |
