Subject:Make this happen we demand an update for ACID

To all Acid users whose currently having issues with Windows 10, we need to relay our issues to SONY. Since we had a great Win 10 free upgrade opportunity presented by Microsoft, somehow Sony Acid has been having lots of issues & would appreciate if you could kindly relay your issues by referring to the below link & lets voice out what issues we are encountering, Acid Pro needs some attention, it has to be developed further for a more stable DAW for today's Win 10 users and beyond.

John,

Folks have been "relaying" issues to Sony for 5 years now. Acid Pro (as we know it) is finished as an application. Still works fine on Windows 7.

Therefore if Acid Pro is important to you - then stay on Windows 7.

However - If Windows 10 is your thing - then it's time to move on. Sony has moved on and so have many of us - long ago. I am 99.9999% certain there will never be an "Acid Pro 8".

Your call.

.... which is sad because people haven't ceased wanting to make music . It's not like music-making is an obsolete technology ;-|

But "music making software" is an obsolete technology - it seems.

While I moved on from ACID a long time ago for reasons of my own choosing - I must admit - I do wonder what is going thru other peoples heads.

Sony has ZERO obligation in any way , shape or form to keep any product current - regardless of what the masses think.

Conversely - users continue to believe that they are "entitled" to some Acid Pro "compatibility" update just because Microsoft or some other outside force pushed them to "change" operating systems.

Reality Check 1: No one is forced to upgrade to anything. But if you do decide to move on - you move at your own peril - along with the very real possibility of permanent loss of certain tools that you love.

Reality Check 2: Folks can stay on Windows 7 forever and enjoy their Acid Pro 7. Nothing has changed there.

But let's not get dramatic and open a "support" window thinking that Sony is gonna drop what they are doing and whip up an Acid Pro 8 to satisfy a bunch of Windows 10 up-graders who took the plunge without doing their homework.

That ship has sailed.

Staying "on windows 7 forever" may not really be a practical option, especially as the years go by - you may be "forced" to upgrade your OS simply because of security concerns, compatibility with other programs on your system, etc.

I cannot imagine there are very many cases where ACID Pro exists all by itself on a dedicated computer. Maybe.

Anyway, it doesn't hurt to ask does it? It does seem unlikely that there will be an Acid pro 8, but maybe all the remaining special features will soon get folded into the studio version and that can be made Windows 10 compatible going forward.

VP, I would agree with your statements except for one small detail...

ACID Pro 7 has NOT been discontinued and it continues to be sold and Sony has announced support for Windows 10.

So Windows 10 users have every right in the world to demand that it works and if Sony doesn't want to fix it , then they should officially announce that it's dead and stop selling it.

Customer are not asking for ACID Pro 8. They are asking tor ACID Pro 7 to work properly with Windows 10 which is a fully supported platform according to Sony and they have every right to demand this.

ACID Pro 7 has NOT been discontinued and it continues to be sold and Sony has announced support for Windows 10.

If Sony is selling AP7 and has announced that Acid Pro 7 is "supported" under Windows 10 - then it's supported under Windows 10. What else am I missing here?

If the OP is having issues under WIn 10 - then call Sony and get some support.

However - this customer is not saying he is going to call support to get resolution on his issue (whatever it is). And he is not asking for Acid to be left alone either - he is asking for this:

" Acid Pro needs some attention, it has to be developed further for a more stable DAW for today's Win 10 users and beyond."

Accent on "developed further". In other words - start coding Sony. Sounds like this guy wants AP8 - or at least a new build of AP7.

Probably be easier to just call Sony and discuss your issue - rather than issuing a "call to arms" for an app whose best before date was Feb 2010.

Windows 7 will be fully supported until 2020 by Microsoft - so the need to "upgrade" due to "security concerns". is completely bogus.

People are "upgrading" because they do not know enough not to. They see a "free" copy of Windows 10 and they go for it - not realizing the implications to applications, hardware or what have you.

If more people just slowed down and thought things through a bit more and asked themselves - what do I really need to do here (in this case - use Acid Pro 7 WITHOUT any hassles) - the smart player would stay on Windows 7 (for the next while) and carry on.

However - most people are not like this and only realize - way after the fact - that they cannot use their apps properly.

I am not saying "stay on Windows 7 forever" is practical - but if you want to use ACID Pro 7 - and ensure you can get it work properly - Windows 7 is the best choice right now.

Complaining to Sony about Windows 10 - won't do anything. Especially after they have already declared AP7 to be supported under Win 10.

"Folks can stay on Windows 7 forever and enjoy their Acid Pro 7."

Or stay on XP forever. My main workstations are all XP. In fact i just did a new XP install from scratch on bare hardware this past weekend. My laptops came with 7 installed, but i use Oracle's VirtualBox to keep XP sessions running on them as well for all the 15-to-20 year old applications i still use every day that never got updates to work with Win7.

I have, however, seen some of these ancient applications that bombed with Win7 running perfectly fine on 8.1 and 10. I'm guessing that whatever backwards compatibility that Microsoft left out of 7, they've worked on putting it back in again.

Coolio. See - this is what I am talking about.

People need to stop and think about what they really want to accomplish instead of following "sheep-like" into some new OS just because it "appears".

Since the focus in this thread is (and should be) using Acid Pro 7 in it's current - albeit - dated self - one should not be worried about what OS is in play.

One should ensure FULL compatibility for all the things they need to actually get work done. If that means staying on Windows 7 until everything gets ironed out OR one chooses to upgrade the OS and move past a given app (like I did with ACID Pro 7) - then so be it.

A solid Windows 7 install (or even XP) will serve one well - forever. One should only "upgrade" the OS if there is either some great "need" to OR all apps you are going to use have reached proper compatibility (Hopefully both).

But again - trying to goad Sony into "fixing" Acid Pro 7 for Windows 10 - after they have already declared it "compatible" is pointless.

It's so much easier to just stay on Windows 7 (or even XP :)) and be done with it.

Oh, and with my new XP setup, even though i installed from an XP Pro SP3 disc, i was still presented with a number of updates and security patches that all downloaded and installed fine, straight from Microsoft's servers. Some of the security patches were even dated last month. So, even though XP support officially stopped last year, they're still actively fixing security holes in it.

Yep an update not only for Windows 10 (they are still selling the product so it is not a "discontinued product") and also to support correctly VSTI such as Spectrasonics Trillian or Omnisphere, and a better memory management, and... a VST64 bits supports ;)
