Video capture fails after one frame

After a couple of PC disasters I'm trying to get Video Capture to work again. I have no device control, and when I try to capture from the videocam, it captures one frame and stops with an "unknown error" It seems like the fix before was loading a different device driver, but I can't find anything like that in the forum. Thanks in advance for any assistance with this.

I think you need to provide more details about "PC disasters". I have a laptop that performs nearly flawlessly with vv3 and is very low on the spec scale.

I just meant I've recently had to reformat my hard drive (for reasons totally unrelated to SF apps) and had to reinstall all my apps including Vegas Video 3.0 and the video capture utility.

Please include details about your system when you post.

1) Are you capturing from a digital source using an OHCI compliant IEEE1394 capture board? If so, what board is it that you are using?

2) If you are capturing from an analog source, what analog capture card are you trying to use?

3) If you are using an analog -> digital converter that is going into an OHCI compliant IEEE1394 board, what converter are you using?

4) What operating system are you currently running on this PC?

Let's get these details and I think we will be able to help you further here.

1 Capturing from a digital source - Sony DV cam through a IEEE1394 board. (Dazzle DV-Editor PCI card)
4 Win 98 SE

Thanks for any assistance.

Which Sony DV cam?

Make sure you're using the MS DV driver: should show up as "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR" under the Video menu when connected to your DV device and it's turned on.

It should also show up in Device Manager under "Imaging Devices"

If this isn't the case goto Help menu->OHCI and DV Information.

Also, make sure you hard drive has DMA enabled from within Device Manager.

Thank you, thank you thank you!

The dv driver was the key (I was already using the updated capture app).
