interesting - since the cat suite is still very much a work in progress scs is either going to have to try and keep vegas alive in the eyes of users and potential users whilst cat is brought hurriedly up to speed (and we know what happens with rushed software), or maybe gary was being deliberately vague?

and, bm's just released resolve 12 final. for a free app it's certainly a cat among the pigeons ;-)

If true, this is REALLY bad news.

I've always been the one fighting for Vegas amongst Final Cut, Avid and Premiere.
There simply is no editing software as quick and intuitive on the market.
We produce ALL our content on vegas and it has been a reliable (albeit buggy) ride.

Please please Sony... Keep her running. Focus and have confidence in your software. Be agressive, market it, get it out there. WE will happily be your ambassadors.

Although I like new stuff, the learning curve gets in the way when you get passed 60.

Wouldn't this be good news for people here? So many complaints about issues with Vegas & they shouldn't release a new edition until they "fix" the current one. That's basically what they said.

An update from the same user after I asked him if Pro 13 was it.

Yes, no new versions anymore. The technical concept is outdated, he said.

So, if there were a Vegas Pro 14, what new features would you like to see in it?

Stephen, that would be ok IF they continued with the bug fixes until it was as solid as it possibly could be. However we all know from past experience with other software that when it reaches the end of its life, further support is very limited :(

It was fun and a good run while it lasted. Fortunately for me I retire in less than 2 years so the existing version will do me just fine until then.

I don't mind changing to Catalyst Edit if that is the future "full featured NLE" but it should be offered to existing long time users of Vegas as an upgrade rather than having to pay full price.

Do you guys remember the many denials we got when we first got wind of this direction? LOL. As always, the more denials we get the clearer the direction is the opposite.

Time for me to take another look at Avid Media Composer. At least with that, I can use the Boris Red and Red Giant plugins that I had purchased for Vegas. I'll also keep a close eye on DaVinci Resolve.

So the number 13 WAS the unlucky number - after all...

I could continue with 13 if only the bugs wouldn't bite so often. Fix the GPU rendering please! Concerning the other issues - should we compile a to-do list for SCS to help them help us long time Vegas users, assuming there still will be bug releases and new builds?

If this is true. Then the idea of using any Sony Software is outdated. Haven't even offered a cross grade to existing user base. Well, at least I can free up some space on my HD now. Plenty of affordable tools to capture/collect video, so don't need Catalyst either.
NickHope wrote on 9/15/2015, 11:34 AM
This doesn't surprise me at all as I expect the developers are all busy with Catalyst stuff. And sorry to be a doom-monger but I reckon build 453 is probably also the end of the road. Now that the biggies have been squashed (closed captioning, XAVC-L etc.) I doubt SCS see the remaining bugs as a priority (although I'll continue to hope).

So if this is the end of the road, what will be the limiting factors in V13 in the future that will force users onto something else?
Tech Diver wrote on 9/15/2015, 11:46 AM
Assuming this is the end of the road for Vegas, plugin developers will likely no longer channel any development effort toward this platform.

If the concept is outdated, what are the major players such as Adobe and Avid doing??

Apple Jax, the user on Creative Cow spoke to Gary Rebholz at IBC. Gary is the training manager for Sony Creative Software so I give the statement some credibility. You may remember him from the various webinars that SCS used to do.
I agree that it would be nice to have someone from SCS chime in here and give us the official word on the future or lack thereof for Vegas Pro.

I believe I've been living in a state of denial for several years. Yes, it will be a shame if Vegas dies, but what do we expect? Hopes that the underlying code would be totally rewritten have never come about - yet Sony is developing an editor with fresh code under another name. That probably says it all.

If Catalyst grows up to be what Vegas could have been, great. If I have to switch to Premiere or Avid - bummer.

Before everyone crashes in a state of depression and mourning, we might consider that there was no Windows 9. Perhaps Catalyst will be the Windows 10 of NLE programs?

Only SCS knows the answer to that one.
However, Sony Upgrades Media Production Software at IBC.
Hmmmmm.

So Vegas is going to go the way of Acid? What a shame.

Is the Catalyst stuff supposed to be the next "version"? I never quite understood that type of reasoning... "Let's make people learn a new interface and way of doing things (and hope they don't jump ship to learn our competitors)!"

OpenFX support is all you need to know.

Catalyst is the future. Vegas is in maintenance mode.

I was told as much at NAB in April. I thought it interesting talking to BorisFX about Vegas they looked at me like, don't you know?

This makes sense really, Vegas is horribly outdated on the tech side and they have multiplatform Catalyst software now that was written from the ground up, they should focus all energies on that. Losing Vegas's scripting support will absolutely suck but them again Vegas really hasn't kept up in a 4k world, so time to move on.

Isn't Catalyst missing like HALF of the features Vegas has? I only tested it once, and it seemed so lacking, I deleted the install and went back to Vegas.

Maybe I missed some hidden plugins in Catalyst somewhere?
