I have spent two hours trying to figure out how to remove hiss from my tape recordings. The Sound Forge XP Studio 5.0 box says that it " ... fix audio problems like tape hiss ...". But I can't find anything like this in the functionality. Even a search for "hiss" on the on-line help finds nothing. I know it must be real simple. Anybody out there willing to help me out?

I would think it would be possible to capture a segment of the tape hiss where no program material is, do a spectrum analysis of the sample to determine where the hiss energy is and then roll off or eliminate all frequencies from that point and above with graphic or paragraphic equalization under EQ. IF the XP version has the noise reduction plug in then that would be the best way to eliminate tape hiss.

Sonic Foundry has a nearly miraculous noise reduction product available as a DirectX plug-in. I don't know whether XP supports DirectX. The full version of Sound Forge certainly does.
