The LUTs are in a standard format and can be used within Vegas if you have the Magic Bullet Looks plugin. Also, if you have Adobe PP or AE you can use them there too via either the MB Looks or MB LUT Buddy plugins.

Thanks for the heads up rs170a and altarvic.

The VisionColor plugin works well in VP13, opening those SmallHD LUTs. I also exported some LUTs from the FilmConvert Vegas plugin (not free) and the VisionColor plugin would open those fine.

Interesting new workflow options.

awesome! way overdue.

I tried the plugin with LUTs exported from Da Vinci Resolve. Seems to work really well. This gives Vegas users access to the hue vs hue, hue vs sat, etc. curves found in Resolve.

"The LUTs are in a standard format and can be used within Vegas if you have the Magic Bullet Looks plugin."That's great Peter. How do I go about getting MBL to use them?

Cheers

You have to install looks 2.5 - the earlier versions did not support luts. You will find this plugin in Vegas if you have installed it.

For me looks 2.5 works fine in Vegas. And playback behaviour is much better compared with the free plugin mentioned here (fps are with UHD footage and the free plugin at something like 5fps on my old i7 2600K 4.3 Ghz, but with looks and the same lut about 18 fps).

@Grazie ...

In MBL 3, open the Tools panel and double click on the LUT icon in either Subject, Camera or Post. The Lut icon will then appear in the workspace at the bottom of the MBL window. Close Tools to reveal the Control Panel. At the top of the Control Panel are the (minimal) LUT controls. Open the dropdown menu from the field just below the title LUT to see MBLs included LUTs. At the bottom of the dropdown menu is 'Choose a LUT...' which opens a windows explorer window, and its then just a matter of selecting the LUT in the folder where your other LUTs are stored.

So far, I've been unable to find where MBL stores its LURTs as it would make better sense to me to store the other LUTs in MBL's LUT folder - if there is one.

@Wolfgang: I have MBL3. I have the LUT icon. Though your low frame-rate comment makes me rethink all of this.

@Dexcon (Conrad): Do I suppose that you unzipped this "gift" to any folder, or one you named "Free Gift LUT"? Did you name it or just, whatever?

It would have been the Windows explorer workflow you supplied that I needed to hear/read. Thank you! - Still, it's a bit of ramble to track 'em down.

As to where MBL stores these LUTs and so on, I did a search on my PC prior to asking this question.

@Grazie

Yes, you are right ... I just created a new folder in Documents which I called LUTs. The good news is that any subsequent access to 'Choose a LUT...' goes back to the same folder with the LUTs that was previously accessed, so you don't have to drill down through the folders each time.

OK, exploring the Free Gift now. Apart from "Strength" am I correct in thinking that there are no other controls in Magic Bullet Looks that I can use to alter these "baked-in" LUT Looks? Yes?

Grazie

Dexcon wrote on 8/23/2015, 4:48 AM
Other than Strength, it doesn't look as though the LUT itself can be adjusted, but you can always add other Tools to the tool chain, either before or after the LUT tool depending on priority preference, to make adjustments. But I'm not really sure how desirable this is though, of course, it's a common occurrence in VP to create a Video FX chain.

As I recall you own a copy of Adobe AE. If so, watch this tutorial on how to modify LUTs and export them with Red Giant's free LUT Buddy plugin:
