Subject:Sound Quality an Sound Cards

Well i've got a SoundBlaster Audio PCI sound card. basicly, its pretty bad. if i upgrade to a AudioPhile 2496 how much better will it be (goin from crapy 16/44.1k to 24/96k. Also, if i record at 24 bit / 96 will it sound better when i put it on cd? otherwise why record at then bit / sampling rate.
