When I'm attempting it edit a sound file and try to trim a portion it will not let me select just between to side by side sample points, the smallest it will alow me to select is 4 sample points, I'm not sure how this setting was changed as I was able to do it just fine before. I've tried to fix the problem by resetting, as much as I can, to the original defaults and I've re-installed Sound Forge to no avail, any idea guys?? wish there was away to attach a screen shot to share with you (hint hint sony. sorry if the wording I'm using isn't the correct way to identify selecting and edit point but its the best I could do. I've been through the manual several time trying to find out how to set the detail level you can select but I'm not having any luck.

Thanks for your help

Disable 'Snapping' which is under the Options menu. The zero crossing quantize is likely engaged. Of which.. cutting on samples not at a zero crossing 'could' introduce a pop or click.
There's also keyboard shortcuts and toolbar icons available for this function..

If you're only getting four-sample precision, your clock (on the left) is set to time, not samples.
Even with snapping off, you either land on one discrete sample boundary or the next.
Intersample editing is not possible because there are no data points in between.
rraud is correct that you need to edit at zero crossings or you will hear the seam.
