FWIW I've been using Vegas 12 on Windows 10 for about 6 months without so much as a hiccup.

There's every indication Windows 10 will be very much backwards compatible with all Windows products. In fact, if it runs on Windows 7 or 8, I'd say it's a very safe bet it will run on Windows 10.

Reading about Windows 10, I get the impression it will install like an update over your existing OS. I'm on 8.1. This seems almost too good to be true as it would save me hours of re installs and authorisation hassles.
Does anybody know for sure if that's the case. I hope it is.

For the most part, that was the case when I went from Windows 7 on one computer and Windows 8.1 on another computer to Windows 10. It was pretty seamless.

I might have had a program or two that needed a reinstall. But, for the most part, I had a new operating system and everything was right where I left it. Even the shortcuts on my Task Bar and on my Start Menu carried over.

I really do see only positives with this new operating system. Even the clunky Internet Explorer is being completely overhauled (and given a new name). And I think Microsoft is well aware of how much is at stake, so they're making every effort to get it right.

Does Vegas Pro 12 still work well with Windows 10? I'm thinking of upgrading my primary computer since I've been having driver issues with Windows 7 but I want to be sure I can finish my Vegas Pro 12 projects.

If you are having driver issues with Win7, disable or remove the device that you are having the problems with before upgrading to Win10. If the device is a GPU, uninstall your display drivers, and get back to the basic windows driver.

I can barely contain myself. I just updated to 10 and have to rush over here to testify that both my major gripes with Vegas are wiped out.
1: Master Bus doesn't have to be left free floating because it doesn't cause Vegas to crash anymore when docked.
2: My AMD card doesn't create transparent areas and artifacts anymore when certain boxes are dragged over certain parts of the screen .

Besides these two fixes the performances of both v12 and V13 are stellar. The smoothness of operations are beyond words for me to describe. I love the graphic improvements W 10 has brought to both Vegas GUIs and I haven't spent enough time to test all sorts of other things but it feels like escaping purgatory and arriving in heaven. I'm rushing back to play some more.

How is Windows 10 itself, is it as easy as 7 to use? I got this little icon in the tray saying that I can upgrade to W10 whenever I want. Hesitant to do it because I don't know what to expect. I stayed with W7 because I heard from many that W8 was not so user friendly.

Upgraded my desktop machine from Win 8.1 to Win 10 today, updated my Classic Shell start menu, and so far so good. No real difference that I've noticed from Win 8.1 (or even XP for that matter) in the way I use it. Haven't even opened the Metro thingy and hope I'll never have to. Will report more in a few days.

I had read a few comments from ASUS mobo users about BSOD etc. during/after the upgrade. The way I did it was to first install just about all the updates available for my board from ASUS (except a couple that were specific to Win 10). I also took every single Windows update that I was offered under Win 8.1, and also updated the Intel chipset and RST (RAID) driver.

I did all that before the upgrade, so that in theory Win 10 would find as much as possible already compatible when it installed. Seems to have done the trick. All went smoothly, and no long chain of windows updates after the upgrade.

I also did a full C: image with Acronis True Image right before the upgrade, in case I want to go back.

iZotope Nectar Elements lost its "Genres and Styles" presets. I'm not sure this was due to the upgrade to Win 10 as I've not used it in a long time, but it probably is.

I tried moving the folder from D:\Documents\iZotope Nectar\Genre and Style to C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Roaming\iZotope\NectarElements\Genre and Style (because I noticed it now wants to save presets in C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Roaming\iZotope\NectarElements\Presets) and it worked.

I guess Win 10 may be pushing apps into using C:\Users\Nick\AppData\ for their settings, as they probably should, leaving Documents for, er, documents.

I also went and grabbed myself the 3 free add-ons and installed them in C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Roaming\iZotope\NectarElements\Genre and Style too.

I just upgraded to W10 on my main computer within the last 2 hours. I just checked Nectar Elements on VP13 - all the presets from Genres and Styles and the 3 freebie add-ins appear in Elements without having to moving folders.

The only downside so far with W10 is that my Creative sound card is not supported on W10, but Creative's web site shows that many f their products will get a W10 driver update this month or in September.

My upgrade took about an hour and a half. from beginning of download to final boot.

Then spent another hour or so getting rid of the services and junk I didn't want running.

Sorry if this has been discussed already, but if I'm sure I'm not going to upgrade on my current machine - I cancelled the reservation in the Windows 10 auto download/upgrade tool that has been sitting in the tray for several weeks now. However, the tool didn't disappeared which is what I was hoping for; I even tried to remove every related entry in the registry but it proved impossible ("Unable to delete key")... What is the way of getting rid of it?

Only about an hour, but I spent a couple of hours in advance getting ready, and about an hour afterwards tweaking things. Best part of a day in all.

Really I think this upgrade can be viewed as Windows 8.2. I haven't looked into new features yet but as far as user-experience is concerned, so far it's barely different for me from Windows 8.1. Fingers crossed I haven't unknowingly committed to a future subscription model by taking the plunge.

wwjd, that is my same impression. Win 8 was Win 7 with a different interface, and 10 seems to be a combination.

yeah. 7 was fine, no problem with it, 8 seemed no different in the engine, 10 same way. Otherwise, NOTHING would be working and instead, everything is like there was no real change. Maybe no changes until OS goes 128 bit in future?

I wonder how long it will take Vegas to go 128 bit, after it shows up as an OS option?

Just did a restore back to Win 7 from Win 10. SVP12 wouldn't render and shuttle pro 2 wouldn't work.

All is good in WIN 7. Back to editing.
