I had V11 running on the Win 10 evaluation with no problems on a 2nd PC ( not my main system )..

Not in any hurry to leave Win7 ...

Vegas 10 worked great for me on 8.1 & it seems to be ok on 10.

7 was the worse MS OS since ME, hands down. 8 improved on nearly everything in 7 and 10 makes things even smoother.

wow, I have been very happy with 7. I have only used 8 on one computer and other than the interface I like it okay, it seemed stable enough. I am anxious to try 10 but will wait for the other early adopters to work out the bugs.

Of course, I was also able to make ME a decent platform after much tweaking, but I would hate to go back to it.

Have you had particular problems with 7, or just didn't like the way it worked?

I've got 13 running like a top on Windows 10. Be sure to check for bios and driver updates. Dell had a bunch of them for the 8700 directly relating to Windows 10. If you have newer hardware, be sure to check out your hardware vendors. 4k is working better than ever on my setup.

why downgrade from 7 to 10?

could you please explain in more detail in what way is it a downgrade?

i avoided 8 because i disliked the gui, but that was my personal preference - those who've installed it and are running it in working environments seem very happy with what's going on behind the gui. and yes, i suspect i may well find 10's compromised gui not to my taste, but i wouldn't say it was a downgrade based on that alone....

I haven't had any problems with Windows 7 but I'm interested in W10 for it's improved internet security features. That said, I don't want to risk the upgrade it it leads to problems with Vegas that I don't currently have!

Who do you believe? Every tech blog out there has a pro and con to Windows 10 which adds to the confusion to download it or not. We already see there is a 1 gigabyte patch to fix the problems already encountered with the OS. We have for years, in these forums, witnessed the incompatibility of Vegas with just the different configurations of the PC. No wonder there are questions and hesitance. My windows 7 is working fine with all of my programs. If its not broke.....

and there's so much chatter out there on blogs, tech sites, etc., that it's impossible to separate the wheat from the chaff.

as i wrote, the main off putting factor for me in both 8, and possibly 10 is the gui (and perhaps m$ getting a little too walled-gardenish), but that aside, i have yet to read any compelling evidence that 10 is going to make a significant difference to my apps speed, reliability, usability, etc., an os is simply the chassis that supports everything else. sometimes you get a ferrari, other times a ford pinto. i don't want another average runabout with a reworked dash panel ;-)

I'm really glad I put this question out to the forum. As I said, the main reason for considering the upgrade is the additional malware protection W10 supposedly offers but I also agree with those who say: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I think at this point it's best to wait until the dust settles. Windows 7 is performing just fine and I have no problems with all the work I do on Vegas 11.

John222, what version of Vegas are you running in windows 10?

I'm running Vegas 11 Pro Also running Fusion, Mocha Pro 4.1 and HitFilm 2 Ultimate and HitFilm 3 Express. No problems so far. The interface is really the best of Windows 7 and 8.1.

If your current OS works with Sony Vegas, Do a windows system image backup before you install Win 10 fresh install, or an update install that only lets you return to your Win 7 OS within a 30 day install. Then you can't go back to Win 7 or 8 without a full backup. But in my opinion, If it works, don't fix it.

I too am running Vegas pro 11 on a windows 7 system. Vegas pro 11 caused so many people headaches, but I seem to have been one of the lucky ones. Whether this was down to simply my system being ideal for it or me not using the features which caused problems I don't know (or have no reason to care).

What I do know is that every time I have upgraded a PC, possibly every 4-5 years to get a new more powerful PC, I have had a good few months of bedding in problems. So many of the programs I use, loads of the workarounds have weird little drivers or scripts that I have accumulated over the years. I have forgotten about all of these as my system and programs run smoothly. It fills me with dread now 4k comes ever closer to the masses and I'm looking at 4k cameras that I'll have to upgrade my PC in the near future and hit a host of problems again.

I have this same fear with the windows 10 upgrade, except I can't see any massive benefit for doing so compared to a new PC with all new faster components able to deal with 4k that I may need when the time comes.

I think this free upgrade is for a year. If I do upgrade it will be on day 364 when I'll probably spend the following few weeks in tears.

You could just clone your system drive as a backup and give Windows 10 a try. That way if you don't like it you can revert just by swapping drives.

I just spent over 38 hours on MS tech support trying to solve two major issues with my Win 7 Pro machine, which is a Quad Core i2700k with 8 gigs or ram. Specifically, my Windows Update quit running some time ago, and I could not connect to ANY 3.0 USB devices (i.e. hard drives, USB thumb drives, and more recently my Canon G30 video camera). After all that time trying so many things to try and fix my video editing workstation, the tech guys threw up their hands and suggested trying an "upgrade" to Windows 10 OS. I was hugely skeptical, and very worried, about losing access and settings to all my major software, chief among them, Vegas Pro 11.0 and other expensive programs. They have said they will "roll back" to Win 7 Pro is I am not satisfied with Win 10. Of course, that means I still have the USB 3.0 issues, with no way to satisfy them, and the no updates issue too.

Initially, I was surprised to find the interface very similar, but there ARE some significant changes. So far, I have not found the interface changes unpleasant, though you may need to search around a little to find where things are, that you used to know.

But, here's my issue... I get an error message when trying to start Vegas Pro 11.0. The error says Microsoft .NET Framework could not be initialized, and it will not load. Then I tried to download and install MS NET Framework 4.5 Installation package from the MS site, it says that it is already a part of Win 10, and the installation was blocked! I am experiencing the exact same problem when loading DVD Architect Pro 5.2.

Obviously I will be checking with the Tech Support guys to see if they can solve this, and Sony Support too. I'm dead in the water with two weddings to edit, another one coming up in mid September, and another at the end of October. Bad timing for things to go SOUTH!

If anyone knows how to resolve this, I would appreciate an email! Thanks so much!
