Ok again I apologize for my newbieness.

I am editing a sound file for a Macromedia Flash piece. I have a typing sound effect and it is about 1.5 seconds long. I want to edit it to be about half that.

Without cropping dead noise out by hand and tightening it up, is there a simple way I can set it to make a 1.5sec .wav into .5 sec.?

Thanks!

Use the 'Time Stretch' DX plug-in.

You can try using the time expand/compress function. But for that large of a time change you are probably going to get some unpleasant artifacs. But I would try it anyway.

We're not talking about a huge file here. It shouldn't take you very long to cut out a few dead spots and trim what's left over to the length you need. This will give you the best result anyway. If you use time stretch then the typing sound will end up being unnaturally fast and may not even be recognizable.

Do you need the entire length of the sound effect? If not, then consider just cropping it down to the length you need. This is by far the simplest and easiest option.
