I'm sorry to have to ask, but how I get Sound Forge to record? Whenever I click on the record button, the sound I get is blank after recording. I can hear the sound from my speakers, but Sound Forge doesn't seem to pick it up. I am trying to record from a Roland VS1680 through a SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum Sound Card with the master output of the mixer into the aux 2 L/R inputs on the front panel of the soundcard. I've tried recording other things, such as CD's, but nothing will show up...I just get blank takes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. As you can probably tell, my knowledge of Sound Forge is nill. |

Try the help menu, look under "Recording basics". There is some good information in there to set up your PC to record audio. What version of Sound Forge are you using, 5.0? If I know the version I can tell you exactly how to get to the info you need. |

I have Sound Forge 5.0. I tried recording using another program that I know how to use, and I found that it wasn't picking up anything, so the problem is obviously not with the Sound Forge software, the problem is that my computer is not recognizing any sounds (although my speakers are). I know this isn't really in the realm of this discussion board, but does anyone know why my programs wouldn't be recognizing any audio signals? I've tried contacting Sound Blaster customer support, but I doubt they will be able to help me very much (I've heard only bad things about their customer service). |

One basic thing to check is what your sound card mixer is set to record from. Double-click on the little yellow speaker icon in the lower right corner of your screen to open up the mixer control panel, then click Options, Properties, Recording. Make sure the inputs you want to use are checked in the list in the lower half of that window. Click OK. You will now see a series of volume controls for the various inputs with Select boxes under each. Often you can only select one of these at a time with the SoundBlaster cards. Select the one you want to use (i'm guessing Line-In) and try a mid-scale setting on the volume control to begin with. You should now be able to see the record meters in Sound Forge moving when you try to record. |

Now that I can record, I notice that the sound quality when recording through Sound Forge is quite low; it sounds more like AM radio. I was able to record using another program, which sounded fine, and then load the .wav file into Sound Forge, and it then sounded okay. How come Sound Forge isn't recording properly? I thought I set it up for 24 bit 44.1k (same as I used for the other program that provided better results). Sorry about all the dumb questions, but I have a deadline for a compilation CD and I have to submit an MP3 very soon, so I basically just need to know how to take a signal from my Roland VS1680 and make it into a good-sounding MP3. |

Did you try reading that section in the help file yet? Every question you asked is in there, and would be quicker and beneficial to you if you read it. You will probably even meet your deadline, it will take 10 minutes. |
