Subject:SF11Pro Selection Start End and Length Displays

At the bottom of the edit window are three little boxes which are labeled "Selection Start," Selection End," and "Selection Length." I find that what they display is only related to the left and right boundaries of the edit window rather than the area I have highlighted with my cursor. The information in the display boxes changes if I adjust the magnification of the file I am viewing, but dragging the mouse and changing a selected area changes nothing displayed in these fields. I would like to send an image of the Sound Forge window which shows the "problem" - I call it a problem because the information displayed is mostly useless as well as different from the behavior of Sound Forge Pro v7, which worked admirably. I also noticed that clicking on the "Selection Start" and "Selection End" boxes changes the displayed information for as long as I hold the left mouse key down. This is also not particularly useful.

I want these selection indicators to show MY selection with the mouse and not the selection controlled by the magnification of the wave pattern shown in the edit window. Can this be accomplished?

Tell me, please, where to send the snipped image of the Sound Forge window and I will.

One cannot upload an image directly to the SCS forums. It can though reside on a photo/file sharing or personal site and linked. There are instructions in the 'New Markup in Forum Posts' sticky under 'Links, Images and Videos'.

As you probably well know, SCS changed the 'record' architecture in SF pro 11 (but not for the better, in most folks opinion).

I sent the image to technical support and described the problem. So far, no reply.

You can see that the selection start and end fields relate to the area displayed in the edit window, not the area I highlighted with the mouse. Double-clicking the selection start and end fields will change the values displayed to reflect the highlighted start and end, but that's a useless way to get and use the information.

Not sure how your reference to the "'record' architecture in SF pro 11" relates to my question.

Has nobody noticed the selection display issues but me?

In what seems to be a related discovery, I find I cannot clear a loop area from the edit window, and what is displayed in the selection begin and end boxes seems to be affected by whatever the selected area was, even if I deleted the area from the waveform. It didn't work like that in SF 7. Clicking in the edit window cleared the selection.

Still on version 10 here, but i have seen occasional weirdness with those displays. Once in a while for me the length field gets frozen and simply won't change until the next time i start Sound Forge. This is rare, but it has happened enough to be noticed and memorable. Rarer yet is when the end field gets stuck too.

I've never had the problem you've had with it representing the screen boundary though.

Thanks for the feedback. I have contacted technical support, and they say they can't replicate the problem shown in the image but that SF shouldn't behave this way. Hopefully they'll keep after it until I get a resolution.
