I didn't "match media settings" right at beg

I think the "match media settings" was on another size when I started the project. I didn't browse to the clips I used which were 1920x1080 29.97 fps (NTSC). It was a pretty complicated bunch of steps I took as I assembled many cuts etc. At the end I did render at 1920 x 1080, 30 fps but it still came out letterboxed at the top and bottom. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the letterbox effect without having to start over? Thanks

It is your render settings that are off, whether or not your project settings are correct.
Should be an easy fix, assuming you saved the project.

Thats encouraging. Yes, I saved it. Your comment got me poking around and hopefully getting it right. I went to project properties and saw the wrong video was 720x480 and the right video that I made later was 1920x1080. Some other settings were different too :field order was "None:progressive scan" and pixel aspect ratio was "1000 square" whereas on the wrong vid it was 9091. Thanks a lot.

You can always change your project settings at any point in the process. The only downside is that Generated Media frame sizes don't automatically change to match your new settings, but everything else is fine.

The whole idea of matching your source is way overrated anyway. About the ONLY advantage this gives is that your preview frame rate might be a tiny bit better, or it might not. The thing i do is set my project properties to match my desired output. That way the preview shows me what the output is going to look like while i'm editing, rather than getting a big (bad?) surprise after i render.

That's "if" you have a fast computer.
On my laptops, it's the difference between being able to edit or not.

That was a good thing to learn... that I could change the project settings afterwords if I had them on the wrong one to start. I also noticed that the preview window was bigger and seemed clearer than before. I wished I had it that way before. Thanks again for the tips.
