trouble moving video as I try to use composite

I'm quite new to using this composite/envelope control as I try to switch between two videos of a music performance. They were both shot at the same time along with a separate audio track. What I've been doing is set the video to "insert envelope" and "composite level" on both video tracks. Then I make a click which sets a point where the composite changes. Then I make another one and drag it to make a straight line. I've got lots of switches like this and as I do that I tend to sometimes grab the video itself and move it a bit. This throws the audio video sync off. As I am doing this composite thing is there a way to lock the track so it can't move left or right or a less fiddley way to do this maneuver? Thanks

There is no inherent sync between your two video tracks and a separate, outboard audio. You have to do it yourself. Once the video and audio are synced the way you want, Lock the Event. Simple as pie.

I tried to figure out how to lock the event and what that does without complete success. Can I lock it so it won't get nudge unintentionally buy still be able to adjust the composite levels? Thanks

I'm getting an indication you're not using the Help feature in Vegas before posting your questions.

In Vegas Help, search "lock event."

In the future, if you're not getting the answers you need from Vegas Help, Online Knowledgebase, Interactive Tutorials, Google, or Youtube Tutorials, feel free to post your question on the forums. Best.

Several times a year I'll get involved in trying to make some videos. In this case it turned out I needed a video for an upcoming event. So there was a bit of a deadline. I was (and even now to a lesser degree) somewhat overwhelmed by the complexity of what I was trying to do. If there was a rating for video editing background I might be a 2 or 3. So if someone on a forum feels like helping me out or giving a tip pointing me in a direction to learn more about a feature I've appreciated it. And I have to say this forum has been refreshingly helpful compared to some others.

If you're going to be doing a lot of editing that involves cutting between video sources from the same event, you might seriously considering opting for Vegas Pro rather than Movie Studio.

Vegas Pro includes a fairly easy to use for syncing up video sources and then monitoring and cutting between them. You can also easily go back and change your cut decisions. I cover how to use it in my Vegas course at lynda.com.

Yikes. For me that $300 is much money. If I could upgrade for $50 to something much easier to use I could see that though. Regardless thanks for the comment.
