Vegas Pro 10-13 Will Not Run

JimMSG wrote on 5/31/2015, 3:35 AM
When I try to run any version of Vegas Pro (32 or 64 bit) 10, 11, 12, or 13 they all stop during the loading process. The loading screen says "creating video plug-in factory" every time when it stops. Usually it will stop and I will get a dialog box telling me the process has stopped, what was I doing etc. Then the load-in screen goes away. I have started having to use Windows Task Manager to get the load-in screen to close sometimes recently. I have installed the latest updates on the programs. Fortunately I can still use VP9, but that doesn't help for doing updates on projects done with later versions. Any suggestions?

Try a Factory Reset. You will loose all your personal work settings. However, this SHOULD get you into Vegas so you can apply your settings once more.

I've had this happen and need to re-scan my VST Plugs and so on. Had you recently added a Plug?

The only thing I added recently was Cyberlink Power Director. A company I am working with asked me to edit using that instead of VP. Didn't get very far with it. VP is so much more intuitive, and I've been using it since Vegas 4. Now you mention it, I wonder if removing that software would do the trick. Factory Reset, seems to me I did that once before a long time ago. Now, do I remember where I looked up how to do that?

CPD could be the answer. Try uninstalling it? Can you log a VP session that DID work and the period where you had installed CPD? See if there is some Time/Date convergence.

Factory Reset: I hold down CTRL+SHIFT then Start VP.

No I haven't tried uninstalling CPD yet. From what I remember, and this is why I'm suspecting CPD could be involved is I didn't use VP after I put it in. Then I had a concert to record, and during my preparations for that, I couldn't get any VP later than 9 to load. They all get stuck at the "creating video plug-in factory" stage of the load. VP9 gets right through it, and is ready to work. I used that to record the concert, edit, mix, and master it. I use some 32-bit FX that was included in a VP or SFP purchase some years ago, so I still need to use a 32-bit version of VP once in a while.

Didn't think you meant that kind of Factory Reset. Some years ago I had some trouble with an Acid version, and had to "Factory Reset" which included removing all sorts of Sony files from Program Files, etc. I'll have to give that a try and see what happens.

Not only should you uninstall CPD, but you should also perform a system restore to an pre-CPD point, as the software could very well have modified your registry file.

Not sure how well that might or might not work. It was more than a month ago I put that software into this computer. I did uninstall all of the CPD software, and that didn't work. I then tried to uninstall and reinstall VP13 and it still refuses to load past the "creating video plug-in factory".

Fortunately VP9 still functions as it should, so while I can't resume any newer projects from where I left off, at least I can still work. The only other thing I noticed and got me thinking is that there were New Blue Essentials installed for the CPD applications. I wonder if that could be getting in the way. I did uninstall the CPD versions of New Blue.
