i'm new to sound forge 4.5 - does it have a facility for extracting audio from a music cd? secondly, can i change the file format to mp3 or any other file format?

Sound Forge 4.5 does not have a way to extract audio from a CD, but Sound Forge 5.0 does. To save a file in another format, just load the file and then go to File/Save As and choose another format for "Save As Type". You will need 4.5b or later in order to save an mp3. The latest update is here:
