A few posts ago I complained that SF5.0 removed 'Expander' presets from the Dynamic Compression interface. Someone was gracious enough to give me those.

But I've since discovered the 'Wave Hammer' and I am wondering if this ullifies the need for the expander settings.

What is the Wave Hammer? Is it just an intelligent compressor? Any suggestions or experiences with it would be appreciated.

Wave Hammer is, in short, a compressor and volume maximizer. It kicks butt.

To get more info, launch Sound Forge, press F1 on your keyboard and on the Index tab, type, "Wave Hammer," in the keyword field. Everything you'll want to know about Wave Hammer is in there.

Wave Hammer, is similar to the waves L1 maximizer. In short, it is "mastering for dummies". If you like your music loud with no dynamics then YES, it does kick butt. More experienced mastering engineers most likely would never use it, because they know how to use the correct tools to achieve maximum level without adding distortion and it isn't a 1 button click plugin like Wave hammer.
