Subject:Multi tracks on CD

I'm using Sound FOrge Audio Studio and have run into a bit of a problem. I just pulled in 12 wavs, edited them and tried to burn them to a CD. The first time around I forgot to close the CD, so it didn't play on my stereo. However, I was able to click from song 1, 2, 3 etc, just no sound. So I went back and burned another and made sure to click the close CD option. It worked in terms of hearing the songs, but it made all the songs into one long track and I couldn't clcik from song to song. I chose Burn Track At Once because the Burn CD option was greyed out. I used this program to create a CD a couple years ago and had no issues with clicking between songs on the finished CD. Not sure if I forgot a step or what. Can any one help me on this? In the Sound Forge editing screen, highlight the section of the first song, then press N to make it a CD track. Repeat for each song. This tells Sound Forge where the tracks are and allows you to burn a Disk-At-Once disc.

Do you mean CTRL N? When I do that it opens a box to create a new window. I'm not sure what you are saying....When I hit N, it does nothing. Makes no sense.

Just regular N, not Ctrl. You have to select a section of the timeline first, which turns that section blue. Have you done that?

Alternatively you can press M for marker at the start of each song, then double-click between each pair of markers to select it, then press N.

Yes I selected a song section and it turned blue and hit N. Nothing happened. I've already got markers at the beginning of each song, did that a couple days ago before I burned the CD. I am thinking I need two markers for each song, one in the beginning and one at the end of each song? Is that what I'm doing wrong? when I hit N I am not seeing anything change on the screen. I've even checked in TOOLS, to see if Burn Disk at Once is bold, but it's still greyed out. I don't remember doing this two years ago, but maybe I did it another way and you are using shortcuts.

I'll be back in a little bit, I hope I can get this worked out as this is the only thing standing in the way of creating this CD for my husband. He is a guitar teacher and we create teaching CD's for his students to alternate lead on.

Ok I know what was wrong now and I remember doing this two years ago, thanks to you you refreshed my memory. However, the letter to use is not N it's R for region. I highlighted the song and hit R and it put a marker at the top of the track. I did a few and I checked TOOLS/Burn Disc at once and it was bolded. I finished putting a region marker on the rest of my songs and I burned a CD and it came out perfect. Thanks so much for the help...I truly appreciate it.

I dunno. I'm looking at Sound Forge Pro 10 on my screen right now, and when i press N the current selection gets a dark grey "Track #" marker at the bottom of the screen. You can also see a command on the Insert menu for 'CD Track" which shows a shortcut key N. Maybe the Studio version behaves differently?

R inserts a region, yes, but this region is not a CD track.

Kathy, the difference between markers and regions is that a marker is a single point on the timeline, while a region has a start and a stop. So, when you're thinking of a beginning and end "mark", you do mean a region. CD tracks must have begin and end. However, pressing R to get the green region marks still doesn't make a CD track.

One must select the segment of the timeline prior to pressing the 'N' key to create a CD track.
.. You could do this with your current markers by double-clicking in the timeline between the markers to select the segment. Then fine-tune by dragging the CD track edges at the bottom of the TL, if need be.
Also, confirm Burn Disc-at-Once is selected in the tools menu. Track-at-Once would burn one continuous track regardless of the track/markers.
Addendum: CD Architect is much easier IMO and works very similar to the SF interface, creating tracks, ect. CD-Arc. actually comes bungled with SF Pro 10, but it's a separate download/install.

I am using Sound Forge Audio Studio 10. Pressing N doesn't do anything. I even looked in the shortcuts section of HELP for any info on N and there is nothing that I could see. By pressing R for region that's how I got it to burn each track separately when I chose Burn Disc at Once. I appreciate your help immensely and I'm just very happy I was able to burn the CD correctly.

Sorry, based on the other replies, I just assumed you had SF Pro 10.
Glad you got it working right.
