Over Home Network ?

FoskeyMedia wrote on 5/19/2015, 6:37 AM
OK, I know I'm not crazy..(my mother had me tested), I just got a new laptop and decided to be lazy and try and edit a video from my bedroom. When I look for the .veg files I KNOW are on my desktop....they don't show up..under the OPEN FILE window in Vegas or Windows Explorer. I see all of the other file. Is this not a possibility ?

I just put a veg file into a folder on my desktop that has full sharing and permissions applied for my homegroup, but the veg file does not show up on my laptop over my home network.

If you are using VP13 and have an iPad, perhaps try Vegas Pro Connect Now as that is designed for editing via another device, albeit only an iPad according to Vegas Pro's web page.

Not sure what you both are trying to do. I can place a veg file anywhere in my network and open it from any computer. Question, where are your source files?

Source files and .veg files are on my desktop. I can see source files and everything else except .veg so I doubt it's a folder permissions issue.
(btw...v13 latest update)

Put all your project and media files in your Public folder, is the easiest way.

Do this check on all machines on the network.

Start / Control Panel / Folder Options / View Tab. Make sure the "Hide extensions for known file types" box is not checked.
FoskeyMedia wrote on 5/19/2015, 11:49 AM
Yup. Did that check. On the laptop it was checked so I unchecked it. Still no sign of any Vegas files. Source is visable.

Please don't bite me but....are you sure you're on the correct user desktop?
FoskeyMedia wrote on 5/21/2015, 1:45 PM
LOL
Yes. I see all of the other files. Just no Vegas files.

It probably is a permissions issue. Vegas might be saving .veg files as unsharable, while all your source files are saved as sharable. That being said, i don't have that problem on my network.

Vegas always runs under administrator permissions and under a full admin account. Home net or alone, always.

In the open file dialog box, make sure you specify "all files" *.*

It defaults to "media" files, of which, veg are not
FoskeyMedia wrote on 5/22/2015, 7:41 AM
Where would I find that option ?

Where would I find that option ?

When you go File - Open, click in the box that says All Project and Media Files and scroll up to All Files (*.*)

I tried it anyway...but as suspectedd it didn't work. I ccan see .veg files on the laptop regardless of the settings. Just not on the network. This is really strange.
FoskeyMedia wrote on 5/23/2015, 12:38 AM
It's not just from Vegas. I cant see Vegas files from Windows explorer either.

I posted 4 days ago that I couldn't see veg files either via my home network. I have since discovered that my home network was not working the way it should have been Since running the home network troubleshooter, all the appropriate folders from the desktop are now displaying on my laptop - and the veg file is also displaying.

Given that you can't see Vegas files either (I assume that you mean media files), it is possible that your homegroup itself may be the problem.

I have found homegroup to be skittish (to say the least) on both W7 and W8.1. Might I suggest that you go to Control Panel on your desktop then select Network and Internet/ Choose Homegroup and Sharing Options, and then run the Homegroup Troubleshooter which should be the bottom item on the page. You may need to also run the troubleshooter on your laptop as well.

Another approach that may kick the homegroup into working properly is to leave the homegroup on your laptop via the Leave the Homegroup selection which is 2 lines above the troubleshooter, and then rejoin the homegroup. If all fails, "leave the homegroup" on all your computers and then start again by creating a new homegroup on your desktop and then join that homegroup on your laptop. I've had to do that a few times over the years, and its not all that difficult or time-consuming to do. But you may then have to re-set the sharing and security options on the the desktop folders that you want shared on the home network which can be a bit of a pain.

I hope that one of the above suggestions gets you up and running.

That's part of what's strange. I can see media files fine. I can see everything except .veg files. I will try what you suggested when I get home.
Thanks...

Hmmmmm...Homegroup = YUK! Stick to 'normal' networking. ;-)
