Does anyone know if it's possible with Acid 3.0 to change the BPM on
a per track basis? It seems like you can only do it for the entire
composition.

Also, does anyone know of a DirectX audio plugin for Acid that takes
a start BPM, an end BPM and a time range overwhich to increment/decrement
the BPM? This is a really common effect so I'm sure someone has something
like this.

Im not sure about per track tempo change but it sounds like fun. But it seams like you could do a series of "Insert"-"Tempo/key change" commands close together to create the effect. If i wanted to do a single track i might just open that track by itself do the tempo changes and re-sample it and try inserting it as a 'one-shot'. i have not tried these things though so good luck.

There is no way to change the BPM of only one track. You must do this to the whole project.

Psst...

Double-click the track-in-particular's track icon in the track list. Click the Stretch tab. Adjust the number of beats setting. Halve the present value to double the tempo. Double the value to halve the tempo. (Get that?)

That BPM suggestion for a time range is a great idea. Did you submit it yet as a suggestion? This feature would be especially great in either ACID or Sound Forge.

Thanks for the workaround, unfortunately using it results in a dramatic increase in the number of duplicated tracks in my composition (since I wish to change the tempo over time, I need to duplicate the track and change the beats setting for each one), which bogs down on my machine making it difficult to edit in real-time -- I guess I'll have to get a more powerful computer. Quite tedious.

I've submitted a feature request for Acid about this, hopefully others will think this a good idea and help get it into Acid 4.0 (or 3.x if they add new features in minor releases).

I guess I don't see why you'd want to have one track at 120, another at 96, and another at some other tempo.

Could you give me a scenario that shows how this would be usefull?

As far as adding an envelope to control the project tempo, this has been discussed in the past.

While it is a little tedious to do what you want to do, you can cut down on the number of tracks once you've got them the way you want them in your project by soloing the tracks and then using CTRL+M on your keyboard. This will bounce down all of the soloed tracks together as one new track. Never forget the power of CTRL+M. :)
