Subject:Please Help.... Recording problems

hey guys im lost... tried everything. anyways, in my volume control i can only selecet one thing to record at a time. i can only record my MIC, or my wav files... or cd... cant record my beats with my voice at same time... and i dont know why.
my friend has sound forge 5 just like me and he can record everything just fine...
i got a SB PCI 512 sound card and it should be recording just fine... any ideas on what i need to do? i really need to get this working, if you know you can ICQ me at 47555597 or just post ofcourse :P

This is a limitation of your SoundBlaster card, which is only intended for basic multimedia sound anyway. Your friend probably has a studio grade sound card with many more features.

Probably a better solution to look into is a small outboard mixer. You could use that to connect all your sources and set a nice balance, EQ each input individually, pan, etc. and then take the stereo output from that mixer into the line input on the sound card. There are really nice 8 input mixers available in the $200 to $400 range, and they're very small so you can carry them around easily. I like Mackie a lot because they're inexpensive, reliable, and (in my opinion anyway) sound great! I'm sure there are others who will disagree though. (LOL)

my sound card is newer and better more expensive then his.... it should be working just fine and theres no way im spending $200 bucks on a mixer i dont need :(
