I'm running Windows 7 and appear to be unable to impact the record levels going through the Options menus in SF, nor through the PC. New at this so if there's an easy way to turn it down a bit.. it's clipping my vocal recording. Thanks. |

Generally applications such as SoundForge do not change the digital level of incoming material for Recording. Once a digital signal is clipped, turning it down afterwards will not improve matters - it will still be clipped! It must be controlled at source. Better describe how your vocal is arriving in the PC - is it thru some sort of interface? |

You need to know how to get into your audio RECORD settings. It is different with every interface / OS combination, so no point in asking how. Dig. Message last edited on5/5/2015 8:50:34 PM bymusicvid10. |

So it's a USB from a good microphone direct into the computer. I don't know how to get into the RECORD settings on Windows 7 with Sound Mapping. I've double clicked the speaker icon and adjusted levels and it does nothing which makes me feel it's the playback levels. |

"which makes me feel it's the playback levels" - if the (visual) waveform is not flattened on top and/or bottom, your file may be ok. As was stated, the record levels settings are via the sound interface, usually through your PC, and yes the interface can vary from one driver to the next. You can however reduce the 'playback'/i]' levels in SF10 Pro via the "View> Hardware Meters" menu. This wouldn't prevent distortion in the input/recording stage though. |

I assume you perused the operating manual. http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/wired_mics/c75c5918ed57a8d0/ From what I gather for Windows, you may adjust the level via "Control Panel> Sound>" and selecting the 'record tab'. You must have AT2020-USB selected in the SF menu "Options Preferences> Audio" as the default recording device. The record level meter should visible in the Sound Forge-10 record window with the 'Monitor' check-marked. I 'think' it's plug-and-play, so installing specific audio drivers are not necessary Message last edited on5/6/2015 12:11:48 PM byrraud. |

Unless I'm missing something completely (which often happens), adjusting microphone levels in Win 7 is pretty simple. I mostly use a USB mic for doing VO's but have also used a Zoom h2n as an interface. Regardless, adjusting mic levels is the same in Win 7. Here are the steps: 1. Right-click on the speaker icon on your toolbar and select recording devices. 2. Make sure that your USB mic is set as the default recording device and then select Properties. (Right-cllicking on your USB mic will bring up a window allowing you to select if not already the Default and also to select Properties). 3. This brings up the "Microphone Properties" window. Select the "levels" tab which brings up an adjustment slider. Adjust, close and you're done. wwaag |
