I noticed that the preview picture quality is better with Preview/Full than with Best/Full. Not a big deal but where's the logic in that? This is on VP13 Build 444.
Thanks for responding, OldSmoke. I rechecked all sort of things but the odd PQ difference is still there. A peculiarity in the video card? Nothing really important, just confusing.
"Preview" quality uses bilinear scaling, which is not as good as bicubic, but faster in some situations. Also, there is no deinterlacing in "Preview" quality.
It visually LOOKS a little cleaner, but it is not actually better. Just pseudo-sharpened pixel lay out. It's less accurate showing you only half of everything. I edit in preview all the time and only jump to BEST for colors, sharpen etc
I suspect, if you ran a full sized monitor as your preview screen, you would see LESS quality. I don't have a 2nd monitor so I do not know this for certain.

Musicvid,
You did put me on the right track! The footage was 25p but in the project settings deinterlacing was set. After I had set it to None, the picture quality was the same in Preview as well as in Best mode.
