Hi Everybody, I have four 96k 24-bit mono audio files that I want to combine into one 4-channel stereo .wav file with the same 96/24 properties. Creating the new file seems to go fine, the copy/paste function seems to work and the imported material looks fine on the screen. However, although the individual files play just fine, the new 4-channel file won't play at all; and if I save, close and reopen the new file it comes up blank, though of the correct length. I tried making 2-channel files as well, and they fail too, in the same way. What am I doing wrong? Doug |

> combine into one 4-channel stereo .wav file - Presume you mean "one 4-channel interleaved .wav file" ? - Presume you are using SFP11_b299 ? I took four 24b/96k mono wav files, all different lengths, and created a new (empty) 4-channel wav file, inserted the four mono files; saved and reopened = no trouble. I repeated all that for 4-channel wav files up to 4.2GB (approx 1hr 2 minutes, with Preferences | General set to "Allow Wave renders up to 4GB") How long are your original mono files? A standard 96kHz/24bit Mono WAV file can only be 2.1GB = 02:04:16:12 (in 25fps timecode) Therefore a standard 96kHz/24bit 4-channel WAV file can only be approx 30 minutes long.... unless you have Preferences | General set to "Allow Wave renders up to 4GB", in which case you can double all times above. If you attempt to save a file larger than permissible you should, however, receive an Error Message. |

I usually use Sound Devices' Wave Agent to create a 'Poly' BWF (broadcast wave file) out of multiple tracks. The copy> paste process is not necessary. Wave Agent also offers selective playback, metadata editing that includes time code manipulation. For editing though, SF can't be beat. |
