I recently bought a Focusrite Sapphire Pro 40 interface and am using it with Sound Forge. I have an issue that I didn't have when using the M-Audio Delta 44 interface. I'm using a Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro mixer. My mic channel is being bussed only to the Sapphire and thus to my computer and to Sound Forge. I use a separate bus for my speakers. Yet, when I'm recording in SF what goes into the mic can also be heard in the speakers. This is a nuisance because I have to turn my main fader to zero each time I want to use the mic and mute the mic each time I want to play back audio. I spoke with Focusrite technical support and they felt that the problem wasn't happening in their interface so I thought maybe it's happening in Sound Forge. I have never had to access and change the routing options in the options>audio tab until I bought the Focusrite. I'm wondering if maybe something in the routing options is causing my issue. I have not rewired anything except the interface and am using the same I/O cables I used with the M-Audio device so I don't think it's necessary for me to pursue a solution with the Mackie board. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm running SoundForge 9.0 in Windows 7 with 16GB RAM P.S. I can't go back to the M-Audio interface because my new PC uses PCI Express slots and the M-Audio card isn't compatible. Message last edited on4/8/2015 8:20:42 AM byVoice Over Guy NYC. |

Without having your exact set-up, the only things I can think of offhand is to uncheck the monitor box in the 'Record' window. Otherwise try turning down the Volume faders on the 'Hardware meter' (View menu) when recording. Additionally, you could try temporarily changing the audio device and/or playback settings in 'Options> Preferences> Audio'. |

Thanks for your response. I'm trying to get my setup to work as it did before. If I uncheck the monitor box, then I lose the ability to see the levels. That along with temporarily changing the audio device are more of a hassle than my current workaround of just lowering the main out on my mixer when recording or muting the mic channel when playing back. I didn't need to do any of that when I was using the M-Audio interface. Again thanks for your suggestions. What I'm doing now is a workaround but I think the easiest until I figure out the issue. I just want to figure out how to stop the audio from the computer from mixing somehow to the mixer output bus that feeds the speakers without using a workaround. |

It sounds like the Mic Channel Output is permanently routed to the Mix Out in your Saffire MixControl software..... the Mic Channel should only be routed to the Output you use to get to SoundForge Input; then SoundForge can intelligently switch the Mic on/off as required. |

Mixer outputs 1/2 are cabled to the interface. 3/4 are to the speakers. Only the first bus button is depressed so the mic is being routed to the interface then to the computer. Somehow the audio from the computer/SoundForge, while in record mode, is getting back to the interface, into the two channels used to monitor the computer output. I will keep pulling my hair out until the light bulb goes off. It seems as though it HAS to be the routing either in sound forge or in the Focusrite Mix Control software. My guess is that since I didn't have this issue with my old M-Audio interface, that it must be the Focusrite routing since that's the only hardware that changed. |
