DVDA 6 and CreateSpace

WayneM wrote on 2/9/2015, 1:41 PM
I'm finishing a series of videos and may make them available on a DVD using CreateSpace. Has anyone done this using DVDA 6 or otherwise? I searched the Forum and got no hits.

This would be a single-layer DVD, nothing fancy. I looked thru the DVDA manual and didn't find anything about saving the project to the ISO image file that CreateSpace wants uploaded. Would that step have to be done using HandBrake of some such thing?

Any hints, tips, or tricks appreciated. Yeah, warnings too :-)

You can convert a DVD folder into an ISO file using the free Imgburn.

Also, when you create your DVD in DVDA, you can choose to burn to an ISO writer rather than a physical burner.

The OP can find out more about burning to an ISO writer in DVD A Pro, if he reads the thread in which he just commented.

@vkmast

I'm not clear what ". . .burning to an ISO writer. . ." means, but I need to write a DVD disc image (my terminology) to a single ISO file. No burning, so to speak, on my end for this part of the project.

That's the requirement from CreateSpace who says for their DVD service the ONLY source they will accept is a single ISO image file uploaded to their site. That's why I included CreateSpace in the subject, looking for people who might have experience with them.

I walked thru the whole thread before posting and did not come away with a clear answer.

Any suggestions appreciated other than avoiding CreateSpace since the client is already set up with that.

Wayne,
from the linked thread: "The ISO Image Writer is just a driver that creates an ISO file".

The ISO Image Writer is a software "device" that you "burn" to like you would for a hardware device. No physical disc is burnt, only an ISO file is created.

Make DVD
Burn
Next
Next
Device: ISO Image Writer
Finish

It is confusing, the way it is done, but we have to live with it.

Thanks @PeterDuke and @vkmast!

OK, now I get it. Brain Freeze on my part I guess.

Finished the DVD project and created the ISO image just fine. Actually the workflow makes sense to me. . .until the next time I forget it :-) So it is in my process notes now. Thanks.

One thing had me curious. I created a new folder for the ISO image and noticed it creates new AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. What seems weird is that AUDIO_TS is empty. Well, that's because I hadn't noticed it before or researched it.

My favorite answer explained it as related to an earlier standard that didn't catch on:

Kind of like your Appendix. . .typically there. . .not really used for anything. . .

. . .but make sure it is there. . .

The empty AUDIO_TS folder is almost always present with video DVDs. There may be an old DVD player somewhere that complains if it is not present, but these days it is completely redundant.
