OT: Some links at top of forum page in German?

will-3 wrote on 3/31/2015, 6:57 AM
All of a sudden I'm seeing lots of German (I think) in some of the standard text on the forum page and my account setting page. I manged to get to my preferences for the site and the language seems to be set to English but still the titles, etc are in German.

Chrome is set to English.

Anybody know what's going on? Thanks.

Windows 7 Region/Location set to United States and System Locale set to English.

Now I've received an email from Sony with the subject:

Subject: Bestätigung der Änderung der E-Mai l-Präferenzen

With a return address of:

From: confirm@sonycreativesoftware.com

Whats going on here?

Will

Maybe someone is using your account in Germany? Try and change your password. Aside from your windows region settings, the SCS website has a location setting too; mine is Untided States.

Your Email preferences in My Account/Preferences are "English" as well?

Google translate: "Confirmation of the change of E -Mail preferences"

Sounds like someone has managed to access your Sony Forum settings. I second changing your password right away -- and resetting your SCS account to English.

Well at my work computer things look OK so maybe it is something that has happened on my home computer. I'll check it out and report back on this tonight.

I did check my forum preferences once I got to work today and English was specific as the language of choice.

I also changed the password as you guys suggested.

thanks for the help!

Yep. Switching from chrome to internet explorer fixed the issue... so I guess it is a chrome problem... but only on my home computer. Musta' done something to mess it up.

"Yep. Switching from chrome to internet explorer fixed the issue... " As you probably know, you can go and nuke any older and/or duplicate forum/Sony saved passwords and then login again, let Chrome remember the new one.

Other thing to do to make sure the old info is gone is to go and clear browser cache of whatever in the list of things are pertinent, i.e. "in past hour" right after you've done whatever clean out and account fixing at Sony you've performed. Close browser, wait a few seconds, reboot it.

And... even though I have not yet done this, perhaps hitting the "Disconnect your Google Account..." may be a way of insuring more privacy/browser safety. I hope this last thing will fix something that drives me nuts about Chrome:

--- I periodically make a ready-to-go OS emergency drive on one of older SATA 2 drives (my OS is now on a Samsung SSD), and once I've restored the True Image backup to it and I boot it up, Chrome always defaults to, well, default. I lose my extensions, settings, personal bookmark bar, etc. Have to log into Google as I recall to get some of it back and sometimes have to go and hunt down my extensions (I like black GUI). It's a...

Pain in the derrière. No other browser in my OS restores that I've used ever does that.
