Credits. . .anyone achieved this technique?

I'd like to use a look/technique I've noticed recently in a single credit. After a while I know this may be just another fade, but now it has become a challenge.

The look is where in a 1 or 2 line title, one or more words, sometimes a person's name, will have an ever so slight zoom or shift applied for the duration of the credit. It is almost subliminal. One of the shows that uses it in credits is Black Orphan, but I've noticed it one or two other times.

I thought I might be able to do it with one of the four generators I have, the 3 Sony titlers in VP13 and NB3 Pro. I haven't found the technique with any of them where, even when the text to be tweaked is on a separate track, that I can get a simple size shift. I did manage to get a slight position drift. When I tried animating the text between 2 font sizes (as a test only since it is really far more than I want to change it) the text stays at the first size and 'pops' to the larger size all at once. Yeah, I was expecting too much.

Worst case I can use Photoshop to create the titles, separating out the piece of text I want to change, put them on different tracks, and then animate a Pan or Zoom on the target text. At that point it won't be worth my time to be trendy :-) I'm already having to composite several tracks just for a simple credit.

the hints you want - 1) keyframe animation - for example available in NewBlue Pro Titler or in VegasPro on-board ProType titler - any capable titler with this feature.

2) Standard text animation created between events with shadow on/off - you can have events on separate tracks to help control the effect - use fades for progression.

All in all it is stock in trade and pretty easy to do.

I could do what you want using Vegas 4. You're over thinking this.
Put text elements on different tracks and use track motion to create a zoom in or out.
If you find yourself using a lot of tracks probably a good idea to either render your titles out and bring the rendered file back into your main project Or nest your credit project into your main project.

Don't mess with the font size to animate a zoom in/out.

You can use a simple crop on a text event for a size change and/or shift. Keyframed for the animation. Works with any titler.

You can use and keyframe the scale slider for the size change. Works with any titler.

In NB Titler Pro you can keyframe the Z position for a zoom in/out.

In NB Titler Pro you can use the "float" effect on a text paragraph for a small zoom in/out over the life of the paragraph.

If you have two lines and only one has the slight zoom, then with Vegas legacy or Titles and Text you will use two tracks. In NB Titler Pro and Protype titler should let you do this in one event.

I don't have Vegas 4 on a machine at the moment, but I did this in Vegas Pro 9 just to see if I could.

Again, thanks all.

I was someplace between over-thinking and over-tired I guess. Total brain lapse until I got out of the Titling generator and then see the unused PAN/Zoom animation.

Ended up doing two tracks and getting exactly what I wanted. Saved to a project then pulled into all the other projects (as per other Help here) using File/Import/Media to bring it in as a single event.

Saved a lot of effort and I added it to my VP13 Tips and Tricks listing in Evernote.

BTW, the free Evernote is a great tool for me to keep all the learning from this forum along with clips of text, screen shots, and snaps of the dialog boxes. This can thaw those brain freezes I have when away from VP for too long. Syncs across all workstations and my Android flawlessly.

Thanks again,

Wayne
