OpenCL memory filter size

Based on a post by @Nickhope: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=910418 - I read the entire thread and I know they came to the conclusion that the filter size excluded Opencl devices.

I performed some testing on my system attempting to look at timeline playback of a simple XAVC-i 2160p file with project settings that match.

Here were my results:

It seemed like a setting of 75% -100% of vram did actually make a performance gain, but not really that noticeable. The most noticeable thing seemed to be in the way the system was utilized between CPU and GPU, rather than actual FPS increase.

I would be interested to see if anyone with newer systems and card types, seem to get similar results.

Chris Dolan ( SCS ) confirmed about a year ago and in one the posts here that the 384 default number is nothing more or less than a minimum number of vram for vegas deciding GPU to be able to be used or not..

When you do put this number to the amount of vram available , GPU will be grayed out and can't be used .

It's just a minimum amount of vram required , nothing more .

( am not at all using GPU but lots CPU's and lots of RAM instead , just wanted to help with this misunderstanding of open CL memory size default 384 value )

The idea of changing the OpenCL Memory Filter size on the internal preferences came from me and was related to NVIDIA cards and Windows 8. At that point in time, increasing the said setting increased performance significantly and not even SCS could figure out why; it just did.

However, I haven't seen such behavior lately and also not with my R9 290 cards.

It is true, if you put in a VRAM size larger than the maximum it does just as you say. But if you look at the results I posted, there is a significant jump in GPU utilization from 384 to 640 or 768. One meg over the size on the card does shutdown GPU assist.
