I have SF 5.0b. The auto gain on the compressor apprears to be off by .5db. only by lowering the level by .5db will there be no clipping with infinite compression. Why is this. It doesn't happen with other effects. It did/does not happen on SF 4.0 compression. Any thoughts? |

I don't know the answer but I've noticed similar behavior from AutoGain. The book "SoundForge Power" says AutoGain is a way to make the lower levels "even" when performing compression. After AutoGain is done, the wav form looks remarkably different; levels are changed all over the place, the peaks are actually higher and clipping frequently occurs. Weird |

I must admit, i found AutoGain to be rather unpredictable. I now do two separate steps ... compress and normalize. I get much more consistant and predictable results that way. Unfortunately, it does mean two processes. |
