Separate input & output audio devices?

Not sure if i'm missing something because i'm still using Vegas 9 & 10, but i'm looking for a way to use different audio devices for input & output. It would make monitoring a lot easier.

In Windows sound control panel i can select different recording and playback devices, and then Vegas should use this if i select Microsoft Sound Mapper, except ... 2 things: it doesn't seem to work; Vegas uses one of the selected devices for both functions. Also i can't configure multiple inputs from my Tascam US-1800 using Sound Mapper.

Would be really nice if Vegas' internal device selection offered separate choices.

Any ideas?

Inserting a new audio bus and assigning a destination device won't do what you need?

You should be able to do this with the Wave Classic drivers.

Well, with my default device set as the US-1800, i can't select any other device for the bus output.

If i choose classic wave driver then i can't choose inputs on the US-1800, i just get the default L&R instead of the inputs i want to use. I suppose this is ok if i'm only recording stereo, but it prevents using more discrete tracks. In Vegas 9 trying to choose a different output in audio device preferences doesn't put any sound out the other device, and in Vegas 10 it crashes every time.

On the other hand i do now understand how bus monitoring works, so i've got monitoring successfully going back out through the US-1800. I can then pipe that into my sound card's line input and accomplish the monitoring i want. It's a bit round-about, but it works!

Thanks folks.

Kelly, I have the same set up with the US 1800 and MS 10. The one piece of the puzzle I'm missing is live monitoring when recording (I'm going in through 9 with a guitar/ turntable). Have you been able to accomplish that? Seems like you ought to be able to monitor while recording for voice overs, etc.

You might try ASIO 4 All.
