Subject:SF Pro 11 Build 299 locks up on 'Normalize'

Just installed SF Pro 11. Open a .wav, select part of the file followed by Process->Normalize.
I get a blue 'normalize' label on screen and SF goes into non responding mode. Make a coffee and SF is still not responding.
Force a closure with task manager. 'Normalize' label still frozen to desktop but nothing strange showing in task manager
Reopen SF, open file and SF now works perfectly and I do not get a second frozen normalise label on screen. Just the first one which onyy clears on a reboot.
Also tried an older graphics drivers to no avail. The 'stuck' blue nornalise label is always 'on top'.

Program works correctly with 16 bit colour but not 32bit as reported

Restored W7 to an almost clean image with just VP12 (64), VP11 (32), DVDA 5.2 & SF10. Wait whilst windows supplies all the updates
Then install SF11. Exactly the same problem.
If I close SF via the task manager and then re-open SF and test all other processes without fault. Even 'normalise' function correctly.

Can work with SF11 provided I do not use the Normalise process or open SF on a second screen 'normalise', close SF via task manager and reopen in primary screen.

Can't say I'm impressed with SF11, Should have trialled it first.

Given that this does not happen to most users, there would appear to be a problem with your particular computer/install.

Works fine with 32-bit colour on all my computers.

First thing would be to explicitly check display card driver, maybe rolling back to a previous version, and ensuring any 'gaming' accelerators are not installed or active.

Presumably no AV software running.

Are audio files and SF Temp file on separate disk ?

Do you have another computer you can install SF on to see if can replicate the problem there ?

If this didn't happen would you be more impressed ?

My take is that this is an odd ball problem.

SF11 installs & works correctly on a laptop so problem lies within editing pc.

Main pc has 2 x W7 system discs (mbr) & (gpt/SSD) selectable via bios.

Mbr disc used for testing/trialling software but same behaviour on both setups.

Custom install with only graphic driver & clean checked..

Have noticed nVidia HD audio is installed despite de-selection.

Have tried rolling driver back to 296.10 without improvement.

AV off.

Program & temp files in C: Audio in D:.

SF is OK if starting/running in safe mode.

Nearest thing I have to a truly clean install is the current W10 preview but it would be unfair to expect most programmes to fully function. Will try SF in W10 next time.

Need to be careful now as SF has been activated about 8 times now.

Geoff

Edit1: Now installed on Windows 10 preview. Seems OK & stable. Clearly something wrong with my W7 installations. Cannot expect all other software to run on 10 at this point in time.

Edit2: Adobe Audition 3.01 also runs on Windows 10.
