I have Sound Forge Pro 11, Win 7 64 bit. It worked fine for some time and now when I start it it opens, and then simply goes into 'not responding'. Can't think of any updates I've done to my computer that would have changed. Even rolled back the video driver in case that was it. EVEN WEIRDER I can get it to work if I run it in 256 colour mode. Any ideas on why this is or what might be causing this? Thanks. |

And yet more information if someone can help at this point.... I can get it to work with the Windows Audio Service stopped (or in 256 color mode as before). Kind of a problem given it is an audio program. In the Audio tab of Preferences there is only the Null Wave Mapper option available as the other audio devices weren't running or available. So this is where the conflict that crashes the program happens. I'm at a loss at this point at what to do. BTW Vegas 8.1 runs fine. |

One more thing...I can restart the audio service, with SF open, and I get sound on all other programs other than SF (presumably because the other audio devices didn't get loaded at startup, which is when it crashed). |

Well I think I got it to work. Uninstalled the software for the onboard sound (which I had already one once, which didn't work). And now it is. So far. Thanks for everyone's help, ummm.... |

And now of course it's not working, again. Any help appreciated. Tech support has been non-responsive. |

I was going to suggest further up that the first thing to do is un/re-install. Maybe the same thing with soundcard driver. geoff |

Thank you Geoff for the response. Have uninstalled & installed SF Pro 11 a couple of times now. Same with the sound card driver. No luck. Have even bought a new sound card, disabled the onboard sound through bios, and switched over to the new card (different drivers Creative vs Realtek). Again no luck. Worse the program is hanging now even with audio services disabled (not that this is helpful given it's an audio program, but it was progress.) I HAVE found a workaround. I can successfully start the program in 256-color mode (8-bit); go back to the desktop, start the display control center (AMD), and switch to 32-bit color. Program is stable after this, only have the pop-up windows remain in 256 colors. Wish I could get a response from tech support as it clearly is related to one .dll file. |

Hi Barney, Although I have had (and continue to have) a raft of problems with my upgrade to SF11, yours is one that I haven't had. One of the more serious problems rendered SF totally unusable as it would insert audio artefacts into a wave file, unprompted. At the point when I was about to give up completely, the 11.0.299 update came out and before re-installing I uninstalled SF, removed all associated folders and waded through the registry, deleting anything to do with SF. The new install then worked - as well as it was ever going to. I have seven outstanding support requests lodged, all unanswered and many cycling through the same suggestions from Sony.... 1. Install/run SF as Administrator (made no difference); 2. Create a new user with administrative privileges and install as that user (didn't help); 3. Reset preferences (frustrating in that all customisations, audio device settings, VST locations, etc., are lost but did give occasional success during troubleshooting). This from the horses mouth: "To reset all preferences, settings and window placement back to their original state, close the program. Then hold down the Ctrl & Shift keys when you start it again. When the program starts to load, you will see a window that asks: Do you want to reset all <Program Name> preferences to default values? To fully reset all defaults, make sure that 'Delete all cached application data' is checked. Then choose Yes". |

Getting a similar problem with SF10. Process Explorer shows these are the only two threads active for SF. 6908 12 6,683,465,560 Forge100.exe!_SfSpike2GetMachineCodeString@8+0x14acd 9164 < 1 414,890 DSOUND.dll!DirectSoundCreate+0x26664 Guessing it is trying to access some system ID information used in verifying registrations. I tried your little "fix" of 256 colour mode and mine also will start. Made me then recall that I have recently updated my video card - perhaps there is a driver/hardware incompatability there. My installation of Acid is having the exact same problem, caught in the same thread. marks |

SF Pro 11 Build 299 locks up on 'Normalize' Just installed SF Pro 11. Open a .wav, select part of the file followed by Process->Normalize. I get a blue 'normalize' label on screen and SF goes into non responding mode. Make a coffee and SF is still not responding. Force a closure with task manager. 'Normalize' label still frozen to desktop but nothing strange in task manager Reopen SF, open file and SF now works perfectly and I do not get a second frozen normalise label on screen. Just the first one which clears on a reboot. Also tried an older graphics driver to no avail. Can confirm OP that program works correctly with 16 bit colour but not 32bit Changing screen resolution is not really a problem with sound but SCS need to come up with a solution.
