Subject:will Acid Pro support MME and ASIO drivers?

I have an Emagic EMI 2|6 USB (2in/6out) soundcard. The only driver I'm able access with Acid Pro are the WDM drivers, however these wont permit me to use multiple outputs. Does Acid Pro support MME or ASIO, and if not, will it be supported in an update? Thanx ;)

ACID Pro does support MME. It did from the very beginning.

You sure about that? Here's a direct quote from my Emagic manual:

"On Windows, the EMI 2|6 MME drivers are multi-channel drivers. If a program supports this feature, it can use any, or all, of the EMI 2|6's outputs. In multi-client mode, several programs can share the audio outputs of the EMI 2|6"

I cant even select "Emagic 2|6 MME", I can only select "Emagic 2|6 WDM". I know its not a problem with Emagic's drivers, because the MME works fine in other apps. I really want to be able to route different tracks to different outputs, and so far it doesnt seem possible :(

Yes, I used my Delta MME drivers with all my SF apps(Vegas Video,ACID,Sound Forge) before I went exclusively to WDM drivers last summer. I do not know about Emagic drivers, but most audio cards will only allow one set of drivers(MME or WDM) to be installed per device. So if all you have is WDM installed, then that is what will be available. I am using my Delta 66 WDM drivers and WinXP in ACID 3.0 with no problems.

ACID only uses MME drivers.

The EMI drivers are WDM. Windows emulates MME for WDM drivers. When Emagic says "multichannel" they are saying that the driver supports more than 2 channels. It does not mean that they support multiple devices.

What OS are you using?

What other apps are "working fine" with the EMI?

Im using Windows 98SE (4.10.222).

Well, it seems that any applications which do not use ASIO drivers or Emagic's own EASI/MME drivers, DO NOT see my card's multiple outputs. So, I was a bit hasty in saying that other applications were working fine w/ the EMI. However, I'm really confused as to why :/

For instance if Im using Propellerhead's Reason and have selected ASIO, then all 6 of my card's outputs can be selected independently. If i change my preferences to WDM/MME then Im limited to outputs 1 & 2. I found this post on Emagic's Infoweb support page, and maybe it's relevant to Acid Pro:

From a user's report:
I want to use EMI 2|6 with Sek'd Samplitude 2496. When I go to Samplitude's Playback Device Menu, only one entry "EMI 2|6" is shown. Therefore there is no chance to use other Outputs than 1-2.
In other applications there is no problem selecting all output pairs.

Explanation:
Samplitude uses only Multi-Stereo devices. The EMI 2|6 WDM-Drivers offer 3 pairs of Interleaved-Stereo drivers. Therefore only the first output pair 1-2 can be selected.

Solution:
Unfortunately there is no way to use outputs 3-6 in Samplitude at the moment.

The explination is accurate.

Windows "emulates" Wave MME behavior for all WDM audio based drivers. A WDM driver has many different ways it can expose all the ports available on the hardware. For example, if the hardware has 2 stereo ouputs ( 4 mono ports), the vendor could expose 2 stereo devices, 1 Quad device or 4 mono devices. It is up to the vendor. In WDM speak each of these "devices" is refered to as a "pin". When Windows determines how many wave devices it must emulate, it looks for unique "pins" on each device. In the case of the EMI, it sees a single 6 channel pin, so it exposes a single Wave device.

This Emulated wave device is capable of streaming up to 6 channels of audio. However, since most applications that speak to Wave MME devices always assume "stereo", you only get to use the first two channels of the EMI.

Thanx Peter for clearing that up :) Now, I suppose I can only hope for Emagic to release different drivers if/when they can :/
