Does anyone know how to uncompress a .wav file after it has been compressed ?

What kind of compression? Are you talking about dynamic compression or about file compression?
If it's the first, then you're probably stuck. Do you have a backup of the file?
If it's the second, just load it into Sound Forge and Save As to a new .wav file.
