Previous builds installed and functioned normally on Vista (Service Pack 2) [don't know about XP]. SCS did not state the minimum system requirements change in the release notes. Error message: "This Software requires the a minimum of one of the following operating systems be installed. Windows 7 Windows 8" Message last edited on1/13/2015 12:11:20 PM byrraud. |

That's interesting. I've never heard of a patch restricting minimum OS requirements before. (There's an application I can think of but that moved up "half a version" to x.5 and let everyone know beforehand before it hit.) Maybe it was overlooked? It was bound to happen sometime, though; a lot of major vendors are slashing Vista in favor of 7/8 and soon-to-be 10. |

It's not a 'patch'. It's a complete new build. geoff |

What's the difference between a patch and a build and a version. Thanks. |

"What's the difference between a patch and a build and a version." Well, a difference would be if the software now functions in 64 bit, but I have yet to see any indication SoundForge build 299 or the AudioSuite 2, have finally evolved into 64 bit. Possibly one of us willing to venture installing novel build 299, can tell us if it installs into x86 Programs folder or into Programs (64). I wouldn't bet on it though, if it effectively was 64 bit, there would have been already stated so... On the other hand, coming so late (compared with most other competing software) into 64 bit, might not be a *feature* at 2015, but instead something that could shame companies promoting it, and so they might want to introduce it silently. "What's the difference between a patch and a build and a version." A patch is generally a small update file that installs changes to an already installed program. This requires the previous build still be installed. On it's own it won't install because it contains only the new changes. A full update is a complete install package that can be used whether the previous build is installed or not. Generally SonyCreativeSoftware only does full updates. I can only recall one time they offered a patch and the reception was rather cool. In the SonyCreativeSoftware world, a "Version" is a major step, like Sound Forge 8, Sound Forge 9, Sound Forge 10, etc. These are not updates to previous versions as they require purchasing a new license and come with a new license key. You can have multiple versions of the same program installed and operating simultaneously. An "update" is a set of bug fixes or new features for a current version, such as Sound Forge 10.a, Sound Forge 10.b, Sound Forge 10.c, etc. These are free, assuming you've already purchased a license for that version. A "build" is merely programmer parlance for a software package that is ready for users to download and install. Both new versions and updates are builds. Builds are generally complete packages rather than patches. |

Just to add to the confusion, the build or version or update for Sound Forge Pro (as with all the Sony Creative apps) can be installed by itself (if there's no existing install) or "patched over" an existing install. The installer detects any existing install and acts accordingly. The new build installs where it always has thus far: In Programs Files (x86), at least on my Windows 8.1 64-bit system. |

To answer the question where Build 299 installs, it installed here on my PC: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Sound Forge Pro 11.0\Forge110.exe" I upgraded from Build 293. I did not uninstall Build 293. My environment is Windows 7 Pro SP-1. I am not having any problems, but I use a minimal number of features. Message last edited on1/17/2015 3:48:29 PM byLarry Clifford. |

Thanks Iacobus & Larry: This settles the question; build 299's internal processing still works on 32 bit. No news in this regard. Please report any difference in functionality/flow. Best Message last edited on1/18/2015 9:53:58 PM byCielspacing. |

A 'patch' is where files ( maybe even only one of the many files in the application) get modified/relalced. Does not require a reinstallation. Not encouraged under strict Windows rules. A 'build' is a new complete install with any changes encapsulated within that install. A 'version' is the release number (ie SF Version 11). geoff |
