Recommendations for assembling multi file project

I am working on the most complex (for me) project that I have done to date with almost 100 separate audio and video files. I have admittedly put things together in a haphazard manner, adding files as needed without paying attention to where and how they are stored, or using a common video or audio file format.

Now that I have confessed my sins, I would like to hear from the older and wiser users for their recommendations for setting up and maintaining projects with lots of files. Does it help to make sure all video and audio files are of a common file format? Does it matter that some video files are interlaced while other are not? And although it helps the user to keep the files in the appropriate folder system (eg all video files in the video file folder), does it help Vegas Pro at all in finding and rendering the files? Any other tips or suggestions for managing a large Vegas project?

Your input is appreciated.

Sounds like you answered your own question. I have done the same, many times, since Vegas does make it easy to just jump in and go, but there are good solid reasons to be methodical in your approach. I have, at least, disciplined myself to create a project folder and move all assets into that folder which makes project management much, much easier. As far as common file formats... I usually like to use the camera originals and have never really had any problems mixing and matching, and I have done many multicamera shoots with sometimes 3 or 4 different file formats. Mind you, I'd rather have all one format just for sanity's sake, but sometimes that gopro mounted low stage left has an awesome shot or two.
