more webdings

Nel. wrote on 12/12/2014, 2:17 AM
Where do I find more webdings.... I am looking for "transportation" like: cars, boats, planes etc....
to add to the fonts list? Movie Studio platinum 11 only has 10 to choose from....
Or is there another way to do it? I want to animate a boat or plane etc to show the trip.... So far I am using an arrow.... or a dot.... a bit boring.....
Thanks

I'm going to assume here that you mean the Fonts, if that's ok, the little images that are kept as Vector shapes within the Wingdings fonts (among others). If I may assume that for a moment, then you can search for terms such as 'dings' and 'fonts' and find free fonts that will have such shapes that you desire (be careful not all of them are free to use).

Simply download the font(s) and install them into windows (right-clicking them and choosing INSTALL, usually).

Hopefully that will help you, if that's what you are looking for

Unless the OP means something like clip art gifs?
Nel. wrote on 12/12/2014, 7:20 PM
Yes... This is what I mean.... In the fonts at the end there is the webdings and wingdings....
I found way more webdings and wingdings in my control panel\ Fonts.... what do I do to see them in VMS12.0 platinum Legacy text?
Thanks

@Nel
The fonts 'should' show up in VMS12 when creating a text object/event.... Perhaps those fonts are not compatible "true type" fonts?
You can try downloading and installing a couple new 'dings' fonts that have the art/shapes that you desire (travel, etc), just be sure to get the TrueType font versions.

Another thing you could do, is create the font Titles in another video editing program (if you have another one installed that can load them) and save them as a high-quality video clip at a high resolution, then import that clip of your text into VMS and apply the effects/motion you wish to that event. Just another idea, as I have had to do this in the past, using another video editor that I purchased (I won't mention the 'competitor' here, hehe).

Perhaps someone else may know why the fonts that are installed in your system (Fonts) are not showing up in Vegas

The fonts (most of them probably anyway) should show up in VMSP 11 as well as in 12, not sure which one he has as he mentions both of them.
Try charmap.exe > Choose and Copy the font, Paste into the (Legacy) Text Edit window.

If the OP does not find a "transportation" font (like a car, boat, plane, bike, etc.), he could still do it with clip arts, even though he seems to have edited out that option. See e.g. this thread (Steve G and brighterside posts).

I checked the webdings showing in the control panel\all control items\fonts...... the webdings regular are TT fonts....the Install button is not available... I guess because it is already installed....
I would be happy to use a couple of them...But I don't know how to.... I am using windows 7 64bit
and VMS 12 platinum 64bit..... copy and paste from where to where....
Thanks

Nel',
try to find your installed fonts/characters in Character Map
"Open Character Map by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Character Map (or charmap), and then, in the list of results, click Character Map (or charmap.exe)."

From a previous post:
"charmap.exe > Choose and Copy the font, Paste into the (Legacy) Text Edit window."
Adjust the size.

In the Character Map..... like you suggested....
I type in search: Fonts... and find a folder Fonts... : the folder Icon with an A \All Control Panel Items\Fonts . There are a lot of fonts displayed.... but....
the webdings regular etc... are not showing in that Character Map.... So I can't copy them....
even though I think they are available....
Is there an easy way to do this....
Thanks....

Did you run charmap.exe and have Character Map open? There you have the Font box, which has a down arrow next to it. Click the arrow and scroll down until you see the webdings font (hopefully). Click that and choose a character and copy. Then paste it into the (Legacy) Text Edit window in MSPlatinum 12. Adjust the character there.
That's how it works for me in Win7. Sorry if I have not been clear enough.

I think OP means "Windings " - that's Microsoft corruption of DingBats, being those funny symbols that find their way into Forms and Street-signs which bombard us daily.
However, reading the post again, I think what he wants ( & someone as well as OP can soon correct me ), is to be able to move a pointer ( or Device ) over the screen to highlight part of his Travel-film.
If this is the case, perhaps OP can provide greater detail....

FWIW, if you have a "Generated Text Media" box selected, then you can scroll down the seemingly endless list of Fonts, to "Symbols" - or "Windings" - I recall there are some others as well, but Font-Selection is hardly easy. You then have a compounded difficulty in finding the "Most suitable" symbol - However, it is possible to create a shortcut if you know the "Code" for the Symbol [ but there are relatively few I find useful ]. For example Holding down ALT and using the Number-Pad type in 169 and you get an "R" inside a circle - meaning=Registered.
Some other symbols require ALT and a leading Zero.....give it a try.

If / when you find a "Pointer" you can spin it about using Pan/Crop feature - but if you're like me Keyframing it appears to be far too difficult to be worth trying regularly. Of course, each pointer needs to be a dedicated Generated Media device.

Good Luck.
EDIT- Sorry guys, looks like my attempt at Help wasn't...

harrie, did you not read the OP's first post right or any of the later posts in this thread?
As this seems to be the case, please let me recap some of this thread.

He's clearly talking about webdings and says that there are only 10 characters available in the VMSPlatinum 11 (later 12) (Legacy) Text media generator, when you "scroll down the seemingly endless list of Fonts" and select "Webdings". This is what I see as well. He asked for more of those and the first reply quite correctly suggested downloading and installing some more of webdings or wingdings (not windings).

I suggested that another option was to use clip art .gifs for his purpose, which I think he then considered but later edited from his post as he found more webdings and wingdings (not windings) among his installed Fonts.
Then he just asked "what do I do to see them in VMS12.0 platinum Legacy text". The later posts have tried to help him to find those additional fonts/characters and the way to insert them into his project. Let's wait and see if we have managed to do that.

Of course he wants "to be able to move a pointer ( or Device ) over the screen to highlight part of his Travel-film." I'm afraid that in Movie Studio Plats. he needs to use keyframing, but he seems to know this as he's talking about animating in his first post.

No need to drag any more corrupted dingbats into this thread:)
