Subject:How can I move/copy a piece, including regions/tempo/key markers?

(This is for ACID Music in case that makes any difference.) I have added a beat-mapped track (several bars of guitar) along with a couple of matching acoustic tracks (backing guitar and vocals), and carefully placed key markers down following the changes on the guitar track. This allows me to paint in loops that change key at the correct place--so far so good. However, now I need to shift the entire production over to the right so I can insert an intro. Everything I try causes the events to move, but not the markers. I seem to be faced with completely recreating all the markers in the new position. Yech! And what if I want to duplicate the entire piece so far, along with key changes... ? I've seen nothing in the online help, the PDF "manual" or the Sams book. Is there any way to shift (or duplicate) an entire group of key/tempo markers? This seems like such an obvious thing to want to do... Thanks! -bmw |

Try turning ripple edits on. (CTRL+L) Place the cursor where you'd like to insert your intro in. Use Insert>Time on the menu bar. Measurement is in measures:beats:ticks. Ta da. :) HTH, Iacobus |

Thanks Iacobus; but unfortunately, while your advice is good, it doesn't take into account an obscure ACID peculiarity: Key/Tempo markers don't shift like "regular markers". I had earlier posted my question to ACID30@yahoogroups.com (as well as here) and Joel from SF answered thusly: Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2002 17:12:06 -0600 Hello Bruce- I don't recall what it was about tempo/key markers that made them so that they couldn't be attached to the timeline in the same way as events, but that feature didn't make it into ACID 3.0, unfortunately. We'll be sure that it makes it into the next upgrade, when that comes. To work around this, there are two things I can think of off the top of my head. 1. If that portion of your project is all good, and you don't need to make any more changes, you could render your project out, and add it to a new project, inserting the new material in front. 2. Otherwise, you could drop (regular) markers where all of your tempo/key markers are presently at, then use Insert/Time at the beginning of the project. The regular markers *will* move with the events, and then you can either add or drag each of the tempo/key markers to its corresponding regular marker. Kind of a pain, if there are a lot of markers, but using Ctrl + --> and M, and having Options/Snapping/Grid Only disabled should help it go faster. Best of luck, Joel "The life of a repo man is always intense." Miller, Repo Man I am going to go with option #2 as I'm not ready to "freeze" anything yet, and I have a manageable number of key/tempo markers. Thanks again, and BTW, I like your ACID material on your home page! -bmw |
