I've had mayhem for yonks and never found a use for it. In fact when I migrated to Win 8.1 I never even installed it. I'd be interested to see some of examples of what folks here are using it for?

Hummm..interesting, I could make use of this.

Here's how I could use this:
I have about 40-50 clips of dancing(wedding) that are 5-10 seconds in length. (I do this on purpose once I get my full segment of dancing late at night). I usually create a short segment of random dancing, and I move the clips around in random order and place in beat of the music..it's sort of a short music video of the night's best dancing recap (no more than 1-2 minutes)

I have only ever had one use for Mayhem and it was great for that particular project (I actually used the evaluation copy, as I didn't see a big recurring need for it). It worked a treat.

The project was a short industry video I did for a talk about changing technologies in customer communications. I wanted to showcase the enormous changes in comms over the past years. I used a large number of stills on the timeline to illustrate progress through time of FMCG (groceries / food) industry.

So at the start were some old B&W images of families crowded around a large wireless & appropriate "old" radio voice over, then within say 30 secs we progress through intro of T.V, an old very recognisable TV ad (3 sec video), then images of old grocery stores, packaging evolving through time, bar codes, computers etc etc through to social media brands,all with key public affairs / events at points in time - moonshot, etc. Mayhem was fantastic, with image variable timing, rotations, some colouring etc. with underlying music absolutely key to concept of massive change through time.

Mayhem made it plausible as it so dramatically reduced the time to put images & video onto timeline and the nature of the project was quite forgiving as far as each individual clip was concerned, it was more about the overall concept. Still waiting for my next need for it!!

The OP speaks of "randomizing;" Duncan H describes a linear progression in the food industry.

Where does Mayhem or "Randomize Events" enter into the linear progression of images?

Hi Jack.

Firstly, apologies, it was quite some time ago I did that project with Mayhem. From memory, I think there is a checkbox which enables / disables randomisation of events on the T.L. I may of course be making that up, I'm sure someone who has Mayhem (or J.R / developers) can confirm (or completely out me as creating fiction).

it's Vegasaur. In addition, Quick Properties tool allows you to sort events:
1) in random order
2) in reverse order
3) by timecode
4) by event length
5) by date/time of recording
6) by file creation date
7) by file modification date
8) in chronological order (using the date/time of recording and, if unavailable, the file creation/modification date)
9) by active take name
10) by file name
11) by date/time stamp in the file name (eg. 20110825_0140PM.jpg, 20110815_0205PM.jpg, ...)
12) by number in the file name (eg. image1.jpg, image2.jpg, ... image10.jpg, image11.jpg, ...)
