I'm unable to save as mp3's, it says "unable to save to that file type"

Try saving it to a different file than the original. EX: I created a file named "Sound Forged" in My Documents, and when I save as an Mp3, I save it to that location. It should work.

Go to File> Save As> and select file type> MP3. There will be an advanced button to select the rate, 64kps, 128kps ect. Have you registerd the MP3 plugin with Sonic yet?
They only give you few until you register, But it's free. And free is good!
