iZotope RX4 Advanced and VP13 - changing pitch

Gene Aum wrote on 11/5/2014, 4:53 PM
When I 'open a copy' of a clip's WAV into RX4 Advanced the files are occasionally 12 steps lower in pitch. I can use RX4 to change the pitch back to normal but there are other artifacts that make the clip unusable. This happens on a random basis with my three cameras clips - haven't been able to nail down exactly when/why.

Anyone else w/ RX4 seen this problem?

I've sent a note to iZotope support but no answer yet.

Tnx, Steve

... are you saying they sound a whole octave lower? Something is seriously wrong; attempting to correct pitch using RX4 in such a condition can only result in a flawed result. You need to find out why RX4 is somehow detecting the audio at the incorrect pitch in the first place; I'm assuming it is mis-reading the file's original sample rate. What are the properties of the original WAV file?

Hi, Yes, a whole octave lower.

According to MediaInfo they are all the same: 48KHz, 16 bits AC-3 256Kbps

Thanks, Steve

AC-3
Well, that may be the problem.... as far as I know RX4 does not directly support AC-3 encoded files.

Try "Open Copy in.."
That'll cause Vegas to render out a PCM audio file which RX4 will have no issues with.

Yes folks, as I stated in the original post I am 'opening a copy.....'

Just to be clear then, the "copy" that Vegas creates is an ac3 file?

Yeah, I brought this up here: "Pitch dropping" . . I called it Down-sampling.

I have a "so-far-so-good" fix, just now, by starting a NEW TAB in RX4 Adv and changed from 44 to 48. Now, opening Copy in Audio Editor, so far has my 48 at the correct Pitch.

During a Skype with Grazie I got him to try the following:

1) Open copy in Audio Editor. Close Rx immediately. Copied file is now active take in V13. Plays at incorrect speed.

2) In V13 change audio editor to SF10. Again, Open Copy in Audio Editor. File plays back at incorrect speed.

Conclusion: The fault is with V13, not Rx.

I'd strongly suggest those who are having this issue to raise it with SCS.

Read the item #2.

Now, with RX4, if I modify the audio in Vegas (I use only left channel) the problem is here. If the audio original is not modified in Vegas, RX4 works fine.

Sorry for my poor english.
