Subject:Can't install Media Manager 2.4 in AP7e on Win 8.1

After verifying on the Sony website that Acid Pro 7 is compatible with Windows 8.1, I purchased a boxed copy. I installed the application from the DVD, then tried to install the loop reference library. I got a message that the loop reference library required the Media Manager before it could install. So I clicked "Media Manager 2.4" from the installation menu.

That's when I got the message that "This program has compatibility issues" (Microsoft SQL Server 2005). Sure enough, MS SQL Server 2005 is not compatible with Windows 8.1.

So, what do I do now?

Thanks!

I'm having the EXACT same problem and need guidance on how to rectify this problem. How did you fix this?

While AP7 "may" (and I use that term lightly) be compatible with Windows 8.1 - The Media Manager app is a standalone item from another time and most likely will never be compatible.

FWIW - it never worked that great even under those OS that did claim to support it.

I found it much easier to simply use the Explorer windows to audition and drag stuff into projects.

YMMV

I know that when I used to use Windows Vista, the Media Manager worked fine, though honestly through time I grew to know a lot of the samples on my media drive, so I pretty much knew where to go for a particular "feel".

This MS KB article discusses what you can do but I'm not sure how much it would help in this situation.

When I upgraded to WIndows 8.1, I didn't bother with reinstalling the Media Manager. (Trying to keep my SSD as clear as possible.) I prefer to browse using the Explorer like Vocalpoint mentioned.

Kind of a shot in the dark, but, would compatibility settings help anything? There are three Media Manager executables:

MediaMgrDiag.exe
MediaMgrNgen.exe
and
MediaMgrSqlWrapper.exe

I wonder if setting these to XP or Vista compatibility modes would do anything useful. I do realize the OP mentioned it seems to be a Microsoft SQL thing, but still...

Thanks all for the words of advice. I will report back soon with results, positive or negative.

But to be honest I'm not even sure what value there is with installing media manager. What does it even do for me? I did read a post from several years ago that it sucks CPU capacity. Basically I was just installing it because it came with the software.

Iacabus - I enjoyed your YouTube video on the Aria :)

Tried the above but to no avail. I'm guessing that it just doesn't work with Windows 8.1. Or at least not without serious under the hood tweaking.

MM works in W8.1 and W10. Just install and ignore the incompatibility warnings. You will need to set your ACID startup Icon's Properties though.

Right click your ACID desktop icon - Properties - Advanced - Run as Administrator

Works fine here on two Win10 systems.
