I did a fresh install by uninstalling all other SCS programs and clearing out the SCS registry keys. Install went OK and I was asked to register which I did and everything appeared to go smoothly.
The next time I turned on my PC, and loaded SF, I was over joyed to get that old familiar window that says it needs elevated priveleges for all users yadayadayada. I hit 'Yes' and it was asking me to register once again.
So, like the idiot I am, I went ahead and did so again and it thanked me again for registering again. Well then it just simply shut down for no apparent reason! Following that it started back up again and did some other weird things which I can not remember or describe.
Then I started it up again manually and got the same window saying it needed those elevated priveliges again to register again but hey, you can fool me once and fool me twice, etc.
I've been a very loyal Forge user going all the way back to the Sonic Foundry days and I really don't want to give up on this software, but it's just been nuts with all these problems and everything. I sure hope Sony will be able to fix these issues once and for all in the very near future.

Right click the sf11 installer and select Run as Administrator and you shouldn't have the problem after that. I must admit I havnet had any major SF11 issues other than its not 64 bit yet.

I think I should mention this so people don't get the idea that sound forge is the problem. Windows 8 does that to a LOT of programs.

I have programs I've used for years on older OSes that work fine on windows 8 for a few weeks then suddenly stop working. I've spent hours looking for solutions, although mostly you just have to run as admin. But often you have to redo some of the settings while running as admin and then it's fine. ... for a while. Then it happens again.

Once I found I had to create a whole new windows user and then the program worked fine. It's really, REALLY bad. W8 will lock something up without telling you it's done it or where/how to undo it.

The issue is the security of windows. It started with vista, got worse with 7 and now with 8 it's absolutely extreme to the point where it will sort of "quarantine" just about any program you run.

And just my own 2 cents here, I'm pretty sure the issue is viruses, spy ware, adware, etc. People just don't seem to be able to learn NOT to just run or install any program they receive in an email or that automatically downloads itself on a website. That causes MS a lot of headaches doing tech support fixing issues that really have nothing to do with it's own OS or software. The only solution is to shut down everything that does anything even slightly invasive. ie. extreme paranoia mode.

I have a feeling it's going to continue to get worse and worse.

Well, it turned out to be a lot more involved than that, but I got it straightened out thanks to Peter from Sony who saw my message and really took the time to help me get everything working again. Now I haven't had any problems at all. Everything's working great now. Thanks, Peter!

Can you pass on what he told you to do, I think you would have a lot of appreciative people.

Unfortunately, it involved going into the registry and changing permissions for keys so they could be deleted which was pretty involved stuff. I doubt most users would have the same specific situation I did, but I’m confident that the next release will check for this type of behavior and clear it up automatically so it will no longer be a problem.
The important thing is that they are aware of the situation and probably have a fix in the works already.

Please contact tech support if you're seeing this issue.

I've made certain to share my findings with them, and they can always escalate the issue to me if it's more complex than others that we've encountered.

I had the same problem with Windows 8.0

After some month working normaly...

Everyday I had to start soundforge, go to task manager, uncheck virtualise account on forge.exe, start regristration. Application start, everything is OK ... until I stop the application....
And after closing sound forge, I had to do it again... each time boring.

One month ago, my pc was upgraded to Windows 8.1, and after this upgrade : Sound forge work perfectly, no need to register at each start.

Yesterday, I buyed Movie Studio Premium, and today after a couple of hours working on sound forge, an error : impossible to save, demo mode is active. After restarting sound forge need to activate again, with the routine descibed before....

It's a real pity to dont't have solution...

Sony received a message with the problem one year ago and never send me a solution...

YESSSS !

After a long time, Sony gaves me a solution for the windows 8 activation problem. After 10 weeks of normal using, I need to te revalidate activation at each start. But this time it's fixed.

1. Uninstall sound Forge
2. In regedit delete this key :
HKEY_USERS > [SID d'utilisateur]_Classes > VirtualStore > MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Sony Creative Software > Sound Forge Pro > 11
I needed to change the autorizations on this key (right click, aytorisation, I check "autorise" for everybody, the delete the key. If 11 is the Only Key under Sound Forge Pro, you can delete the "sound forge pro" key also.
3. Re-install sound forge, validate.

It work for me.

It's not the first time I remove someting in the registry, but this time it's seems to be the good method. Thank you Sony !

SFPro is indeed a very bad version. It keeps asking you to registrate, stops working, etc. Up to version 10 I used the program as a wave editor in Vegas. It did a wonderful job. But version 11 won't open in Vegas anymore. I put several questions about this topic, but never got an answer from Sony.
