Subject:Build 293 can run only as Admin

The Administrator rights bug is still not fixed :(

I have upgraded to SF11 b293 now on two different PCs. I could run SF w/o administrator rights right after installing. But only once - after I rebooted it required admin rights again.

The registration requester always pops up like I never registered asking for Admin rights and simply goes away when I click Yes to allow it.

I hope you can fix this.

Having the same problem. Is Sony ever going to fix this? Customer support has really gone down the tubes in for this decades old customer. I may have to look elsewhere for my software.

It requires admin rights on both PCs now. Happened the next day again after updating.

That would be an absolute no-no for me. Is there anyone who isn't affected by this? How come Sony have been so slow to fix this problem?

Search the forum - heaps on this topic. Apparently not trivial to fix (I can't imagine why).

Not a problem for me as I don't have any 'non-admin' user profiles, and can''t imagine why anybody would, unless in a work-group environment.

geoff

Same here for me. Non-admin users are so terribly limited that i haven't had one on any of my Windows boxes since, well ... probably 98SE days. My PCs are mostly online with the world 24x7, never an issue with them running as admin.

Thing is, you just need to be choosy what software you install. Avoid like the plague places like GAOTD, which deliver adulterated versions of software with tons of spyware/adware included.

Agreed - I don't have any non-admin users either - but running a program in Windows 8.1 (and 8 and 7?) does not give that program administrative rights automatically (for security reasons). You might have noticed the pop-up where Windows asks you to allow a certain program to "make changes" - that's admin rights and SF11 need those when this issue is present.

When you right-click an icon/exe file your can choose "Run as adminnistrator" or you can set this icon/file to always run with administration rights in its properties.

The issue as been solved now :)

It required uninstall of SF11 and Noise Reduction, a thorough clean-up of the registry, a reboot and then re-install of build 293.

I've run a non-admin account since XP. Never had any problems nor limitations. I think Windows 7 and 8 are usually set up with Regular accounts nowadays which are also not admin. Running as an administrator is an unnecessary security risk.
