How to insert Video Track Above Audio Track

Byron K wrote on 8/10/2014, 3:01 PM
I know this is probably a s-t-u-p-i-d question but I can't figure out how to insert a video track above an audio track.

R / click on the audio track doesn't show Insert Video Track selection.

Ctrl + Q throws the video track at the bottom of the project tracks, I then have to scroll to the end and drag the video track where I want it.

The exact opposite happens when I try to insert an audio track above a video track. Ctrl + Shift + Q throws the audio track to the top of the project tracks..

All I want to do is be able to R / click on an audio or video track and insert an audio or video track above the track I'm on w/ out having going to the "nearest" audio or video track and inserting the track and moving it.

Does this work in 13?

Thanks.

Thanks John,
Yea, that's what I'm doing now. I want to know if there's a setting where I can just insert a video or audio track above the track I'm on, whether it's a video or audio. (:

Sorry, I didn't want to overstate the frustrating obvious.

This isn't a fix for your problem, but to save some scrolling through tracks, hit F11 first. that gives you a better view of your tracks. Hit F11 again to return to normal view.

Dunno what John's deleted post said. But can't you just insert a video track, and simply drag it to where you want it ?

Geoff

It said what you said.

However, the stacked tracks in Vegas Pro are analogous to the rows in a spreadsheet like Excel. If one was working on row 8,294 in Excel and inserting a new row only placed it at row 0 or 32,000, I agree it would get very frustrating after a while.

It sounds like a feature request to me.

"It sounds like a feature request to me."

Hardly a feature request, it's a request to make it work like everything else works.

The only modification to the norm I'd suggest is video tracks should be inserted above the selected track and audio tracks below.
The RClick menu should always the choice to insert either a video or audio track.

If we right click on audio track, we can only insert audio track, and so does for Video track, we can only add video track.
Only in blank track, we can have a choice.

Thanks!

I submitted a feature request and referenced this thread. I'm still on 12 and wanted to know if this was fixed in 13. If they get it to work w/ an update I may just purchase the upgrade. (;

I don't see the problem. If I want to add a video track, I right-click on any blank area of the workspace, click on "Add audio track" or "Add video track", then drag the track to where I want it.

It took me longer to explain it than to do it.

I'd like to see the Right Click on a track give both add video and add audio track all the time. I agree that audio should be added below and video above as the default.

Or just drag a video event down, a track will be automatically created.
farss wrote on 8/11/2014, 2:32 PM
Try doing it with when your project has 100 tracks, even at 10 tracks it's a PIA having to drag tracks around. The problem is compounded by something in all recent versions of Vegas that makes simply "catching" a track to drag it hit and miss. Of course if you "miss" then Vegas can do unintended things.

Just noticed something.

If you go to the top menu then choose Insert-> Video track.
The new Video track is inserted on top of all the tracks.
Insert->Audio track is inserted always at the bottom.

Yes I usually right-click on the blank area and create a video or audio track.
Or right click and duplicate a track if that is necessary.

You can always drag the A/V tracks to any position.

And remember you can have endless amount of tracks in Vegas..

Yes those are all tracks :-).

There is no problem here - there is just concern about who wants to do what his way.

One thing I always do as I firm up Vegas Project documentation notations is to name the track and include a track identification number into the name- hence I may have maintrack 1 as a base and title super tracks as title track 1 with title track 2 above the previous title track 1. This helps sort my location as I scroll up and down a lot of tracks.

For anyone using multiple tracks, I cannot believe you would not want to sort out the tracks names and locations to keep it all managed.
Geoff_Wood wrote on 8/11/2014, 8:17 PM
Hopefully an optional one then. I often have projects with upwards of 20 audio tracks. The last thing I want is to add a track (audio or video) and the track numbers of all the existing ones are changed.

My work flow is as follows:
1. Throw all my multicam videos onto the timeline, chop to bite size peices. (some video events are quite long)
2. sync w/ PluralEyes
3. Un-group and Consolidate all video tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc then corresponding audio tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc below the video tracks.
3a. Slice and dice videos in multicam editor

4. Export audio .wav files and remix in Cubase.

5. I insert master audio track from Cubase at the top track of all my tracks. I like to see my mastered audio at the top of all my tracks don't ask why I really don't know, maybe because I've always mixed in Cubase and put all the mixes at the top. (:

Many times just I want to insert another audio track above the video track for another re-mix but have to go up to the audio track insert and drag it down. The point is I can easily do this, but after doing this for so many years, why can't I just insert an audio or video track above any track I right click on????? (;

Thanks for all the input guys!
