Frameserve from Vegas Pro to HandBrake

Marco. wrote on 6/21/2014, 10:53 AM
Just a quick note on the way to establish an optimized workflow …

Now that Debugmode's FrameServer works pretty fine with Vegas Pro 12 and 13, I was looking for a way to feed HandBrake via the FrameServer. And it actually works if:

- You install AviSynth and make the FrameServer signpost AVI to an AVS AviSynth file.
- You install both AVS2AVI and Pismo File Mount and use these tools to turn the AVS file to an AVI which can be read by HandBrake.

To boost such a workflow I created a batch file which – once you exported a Vegas project via FrameServer – will automatically open HandBrake and feed HandBrake with the FrameServer's output.

Once I'll have optimized this workflow and if anyone interested in details, I could try to make a description translated into english and publish it on my website. Until then I just wanted to let you know: Yes, there is a way to send a Vegas project to HandBrake using the FrameServer. :)

I would be interested in knowing the particulars of the batch file that automatically launches Handbrake. I like to frame serve but not to Handbrake. I would like to auto-launch rather than manually launch.

Regards,

Kimberly

The command line I use to start HandBrake and to automatically feed HandBrake with the file is:

start handbrake "C:\frameserver\vegas.avs\vegas.avi"

Replace "handbrake" with the app you use and the path with the path of the Frameserver's signpost AVI (if your app accepts this particular signpost AVI).

Thank you Marco. I will play around with the batch file when I get home on Wednesday. Last year I did a lot of frameserving to MeGUI with good result but I always had to launch manually.

I wasn't ready yet to write a detailed descripting of preparing the setup for this workflow but this is how it looks like:

This now is – almost – as if using HandBrake as a Vegas Pro encoder.

Note that I used various kinds of timed processes which work fine on my system but using same workflow on very slow computers might fail because of mismatched timing.

Cool

I'm glad I could further optimize this workflow. So now only 1 click is needed to send a Vegas Pro project to HandBrake. See the video below.

I will now see if other PC will have a chance to use same workflow and I hope it will work on PC and Vegas installations with language settings other than German (and hopefully even earlier Vegas versions than 13 which I used). A detailed description will follow then.

Just wanted to drop a note we tested this workflow on various systems (and also on Vegas Pro 12) now and it seems to work fine (except one case where it looks like the FrameServer does not work properly). I'll try to translate the setup and workflow description into English next days.

Finally done. I opened a new thread to offer the link to the website which describes installation and configuration. See here.
