Subject:Record show for radio - music and voice.??

I have Sony Sound Forge 7.0. I would like to record a radio show in which I would (a) talk into a microphone and (b) play a song on my computer (preferably iTunes, but could use an Audio CD or an mp3 file) and create a show. Ideally I would have two sound sources feeding into the recording - one the sound that would also come out the computer speakers and the other from a microphone. Can I do this? What do I need to be able to do it? What other forum might be good for this question?

Assuming you mean 'create' a radio show or podcast.
Record your voice (with a decent pro or semi-pro microphone) then add the music files and edit it all together If you want the voice over the music, that can be difficult in SF, depending on your expertise, so Vegas or other 'multi-track' application would be easier. In either case, record and save as WAVE files. (typically 44.1kHz./16 bit for audio-only) MP3s and other data compressed formats lose quality on every subsequent save, so do not use them for anything other than the final' delivery format.. MP3 or other specific file type if needed.

If you want to do this live, the simple solutions is to use a small mixer, a mic, and a line out from your PC.

If your audio hardware has multiple inputs, it may be possible to send the iTunes output to the input using the built in mixer. You won't get much control over the gain between them, and mixing channels in forge can be done, but it is easier with a tool like Vegas or ACID.

If you have an iPod or some other iDevice, you could connect that to the external mixer, and then mix it's output with your voice over. Still, mixing live and recording your voice live is a learned and practiced effort. It is much easier to record all of your voice overs, and then add the music tracks.

My advice is lay down the music track first.
Then record your v/o track over it.
If you are making a recording for radio broadcast, it must comply with your country's leveling standard.
