It's been over a year now since people started complaining and asking for help when Sound Forge suddenly started requiring users to register the product every single time they open it....only you couldn't do that because when you pressed "next" not even a registration screen would come up. Nothing would come up. Exactly a year ago today SonyPCH Peter told us on this forum "Right click on the forge exe and select run as administrator." That works EXCEPT it disables some of the features of the program! So it's not a solution. He informed us on 8/1/2013 "We are looking at the need to run as admin issue." I submitted a ticket to support in November of 2013. After going round and round with tech support, finally, on 12/4/13 Sony acknowledged to me "....This is a known issue and development is aware of it. Our development team is working to resolve the issue and implement the fix in a future update. The only workaround for this issue is to run as administrator at this time." That was almost 7 months ago. Still no update. Still no fix. Why? It appears to me Sony has quietly abandoned Sound Forge like it did Acid Pro. I would love to hear from SonyPCH Peter, if he's still around, or anybody from Sony, mainly about the original issue, should we, after an year, simply give up that Sony ever plans on fixing the issue? I mean, just be honest with us. |

We have not abandoned Sound Forge. Not making excuses, but it has been a sticky problem to solve. The fix is in the pipeline. I don't know when it will be released. Peter |

Thank you for your reply. I'm glad it hasn't been abandoned. I like the program, if it would only work as it used to, but its been a year now and it's frustrating because using the program this way is inefficient and cumbersome. It would be nice if Sony would keep us in the loop. I've been manually checking for updates, checking the forums and it seems like with Acid Pro, another program I love and still use, that SF had been unceremoniously abandoned. Oh well, whatcha gonna do? ;) |

Just to clarify and give you hope - it's not a problem for all (most ?) people. Maybe trying installing on several different systems may help point you to a configuration or combination of os/hard/soft/ware that works for you .... geoff |

I'm a regular user of Sound Forge Studio 10 ( on Win7/ 32b) and confirm it's still working OK as stand-alone - also seems to work ok when I " Save copy in Audio Editor" in Movie Studio v10 and v12. My only beef (Complaint) is that I'm limited to one stereo track. In some instances I have to re-import to Movie Studio and use the multi-track Audio feature. This is to build-up an audio effect, before making one stereo track . . . but this is a very complicated route for something SFS should do itself.... Or do I need to RTFM? Sound Forge Pro 9 and above support multiple channels. This may be one of the differences between the Studio and the Pro versions. |

Its an issue with Win 8.1. and affects Sound Forge 10 and 11, I use both. Im hoping for a solution for one year now, too. Every few days I have a look in the forums. Nothing happens. Under Win 8.1 I cant open Soundforge within Vegas. I like the program and the workflow with Vegas, it fits all my needs, but at this point Im very disappointed. Ive never heard, anyone is not affected by this issue under 8.1. |

The problem(s) did appear to start after they released Windows 8.1. Before that update the program worked fine for me, since then, nothing but trouble. I suspect those not having the problems are not running Win 8.1. Makes me wonder if Sony is just hoping Windows will release a Windows 8.2 and hope that fixes the problem. I checked several tech blogs and rumor has it that Microsoft MIGHT be releasing some sort of update to 8.1, but it's only a rumor and no date has been set, so whether it's true or not, who knows? Meanwhile, we, the consumers, are left in the dark. |

I have been using Sound Forge 11.0 for quite awhile now on a Windows 8.1 machine and have seen none of these issue. Maybe I am one of the lucky ones. Win 8.1, i7 4th gen Quad, 12 Gig Ram, Toshiba S75t-A7220 laptop 17 inch touch screen. Again zero problems using on board sound and multiple USB sound cards Zoom and M-Audio ASIO. |

I may have spoke to soon above. I hadn't loaded the drivers for, my M-Audio transit sound card. I just got done installing the newest drivers from their website after this I am now getting the error as seen above. If I load sound forge using admin mode it still loads fine. Maybe it has something to do with loading soundcard drivers after the initial install of sound forge. |
